Hi all

New to this so be gentle.

I have a 56 Mazda 6 MPS bought private a few months ago, the gears grind between 1st and 2nd more when she is cold. the dealer has changed the tranny oil (my cost) saying this is a normal problem as the oil Mazda put in the gearbox at the factory is not suitable for the U.K. climate. this did not fix the problem but did make it slightly better. i have had the gearbox stripped out and Mazda warranty dept have sent an assessor. he says that my Mazda zoom zoom + warranty will not cover the £2000 cost as it is normal wear and tear, the car has only done 54000k.

Has anyone out there got any helpful links or advice as i am taking legal action against the warranty dept. the car is stock. and i just cant believe that this can be put down to normal wear and tear in a performance car with that kind of mileage.

i have had a look through this website and it seems there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there.

any help would be great.

Normal wear and tear? I don't think so. I thought that the key difference between a Mazda's expensive warranty and the independents was that you didn't get this nonesense. Did the dealer authorise the strip out? If so, it is their responsibility. That's quite an admission that the gearbox oil is not suitable for purpose. Wouldn't surprise me as my high rev changes are much better since I put in fully synth Millers. All you should get between 1st and 2nd is a degree of bauking, especially when cold, but not grinding, just like most cars.

The gears will be hard to get into gear when cold, this is normal as it takes a while for the transmission oil to warm up, but they shouldn't grind, at least not when the motor and transmission is warm. Just for reference, what typical climate are you...we've experienced some cold mornings and days of late, 3 degree morning starts and my MPS gearbox is fine.

Sorry, can't really about about the legal mumbo-jumbo but I hope you get it sorted

I'm at 51K and up and down changes in to second have always been difficult on cold mornings.
The dealer is way out of whack on the warranty
If you have the official Zoom Zoom warranty the only thing not covered on the gear box end is the clutch
So long as the vehicle has been maintained as per the hand book, there should be no problem for them to repair under warranty
Why do these warranty guys do this. I had the same issue with the AC system last year. They paid in the end but I had to fight them.
Good luck mate and keep us up to date
