Hi everyone, thought I'd pop along and say hello. I'm trying to make my mind up if I'm going to buy a mps6 or revert back to a Subaru Impreza as I know them well having owned and modified several in the past.
I'm from the Glasgow area and will be selling my Audi A4 2.5 quattro sport TDi and heading back to the land of petrolheads after a 2yr absence.

I've got loads of questions regarding the 6, most notably:

1) Regular unleaded or Super?
2) Real world mpg figures would be nice?
3) Easy to remap locally? I know C&C at Hillington would knock me up a 3" SS system no worries, but what cat sections can be deleted and still pass the mot emissions test? (I know the rules are a changing, but the test centre would never know what's supposed to be there as standard tbh).
4) What would be high mileage for a 06 reg model, and up to what reg date is the cheap road tax applicable for?

5) Lastly, but most importantly, are there any areas to concentrate on looking at when I go to view one? i.e. any common weaknesses or easy signs of abuse.

I know its loads of questions, but I need to convince myself this is the way forward (Think I'm leaning towards to mps6 tbh anyway  )

Hi there and :welcome:

Super unleaded is what these cars love to drink

The first cat can be replaced with a sports cat and the second cat can be completley removed ...... I passed an MOT a few weeks ago with this setup.

I do believe that any MPS6 registered before March 23rd 2006 is in the cheaper tax bracket.

Real world fuel - 55 litres will return between 280/320 miles on average

Super unleaded a must

06 plate - 40k miles or so would be ideal, service history, alloy wheels corrode easily, as long as it has been an owner who has looked after and not abused it you'll b fine.
Also the bumper/bonnet suffers from stone chip damage quite easily.

Remap... Versatune or XO power, best to go somewhere with MPS experience

Hello & :welcome:

I would suggest go getting a shotty of one if you haven't already done so

As above agree with the comments. If you go for the cheaper tax ones some suffered from a 'snatchy' clutch which can be adjusted DIY but the ones after this came 'fixed'.

Tuning, there are a 'handful' of places that have successfully tuned and for you I think XO in Newcastle area and Wallace Performance in Aberdeen would be the 2 closest.
You could go down the VersaTune route if you wanted to customise the map fully yourself with plenty of support from the forum or you could get a Hypertech box which is just a 'plug n play' device which wouldn't get the full potential out of your car but should be easy and safe

Many thanks for your replies guys  .

I'm away to look at a 56plate MPS6 with 60k on the clock this afternoon as it happens. I take it all the usual stuff to look out for applies, oil leaks/smoky turbo/blue exhaust smoke/unusual noises. Hopefully all will be well and I'll have some good news to report back with later on  .

A 56 plate will be £460 RT. The 6MPS needs 98+ superunleaded. Most are only 97 in the UK. OK, but not ideal. I find Tesco Momentum (99) the best and the cheapest.

Cheers foxy, I guessed that I'd be very lucky to get a 55plate model so kinda bit the bullet over the £460pa tax bill :censored: .

On my 350bhp scooby I always used either Shell V-power (98ron) or Tesco 99ron, so know the score with regards to superunleaded.

Just thought I'd let you guys know how it went with the viewing today........

I've only gone and bought the thing!!!! Or, left a deposit and should collect it at the start of next week all going well with my account withdrawal  .

It was minted if I do say so myself. Bodywork, wheels, interior, engine all tight as a tight thing. Even had brand new discs, pads & Pzero Rosso rubber all round!

But the best part is the colour, Grey with a hue of other colours in the sun.

P.S. The only thing I didn't like was the OEM skinny little strut brace in the engine bay....no doubt this can be removed and a more purposeful aftermarket jobby fitted :D .

Pics to follow upon collection..........
