Hello all! I currently own an Accord Type R and, to be honest, i love it for what it is,(very focused drivers car, pretty raw and with bags of feedback and feel) but, she's now 10yrs old and although she's in excellent condition etc......i now find myself looking for something i can upgrade to that's newer, more luxurious but still handles and performs well and puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it! After considering and researching so many different cars (inc. Leon Cupra R, Integra DC5, right up to Evo 7/8's and even Merc CLK 55 AMG) the 6 MPS seems to make a lot of sense- one of the easiest cars to live with considering the performance and covers most of my 'needs' very well without the headaches of higher performance motors! I know you'll all be a little biased, and rightly so!!!! But from an owners point of view is the 6 MPS as good and as reliable a bet as it seems? Any info/advice is much appreciated! Thanks

The 6 is very smooth and a lot less brash than an Accord type R. It's comfortable, quick and well appointed, but still fairly nimble for it's size. Now the running costs are high, wouldn't have thought much more than the type-r though. My previous car was a 200sx, very different but still very fun to drive in comparison. The grip is phenomenal and acceleration is effortless. Tuning is expensive. Welcome to the forum, have a look around, perhaps someone local can take you out for a drive.

Hello and I agree with JDK. If you have owned a performance car then costs will be pretty much what you expect. Before you buy make sure the clutch has been sorted and the wheel arch protection has been done. Also check the alloys I went through all the same questions and concluded that the 6 made sense for me as it ticked all the boxes for the wife and job and puts a huge grin on my face when I let loose. Incredible Handling (commit or it will bite you) lusty powerful engine that pull cleanly up to 5,500 RPM. Not many about so you feel exclusive. I have the Titanium Silver but would say the Black is better looking. Have you looked at the 3?? Good luck guy and keep us up to date

I sold it to the missus by telling her it's just a sporty family car. A civilised scooby if you can call it that. Love the handling of it and the confidence that the AWD gives you. Good and roomy inside with a fair sized boot for trips away, oh and a lovely acceleration curve!!! I would just repeat the above and check the alloys, and have a nose under the hood I had to have strut brace replaced under warranty due to corrosion creeping in. Service costs won't break the bank unlike an Evo and boy is it exclusive. If you need more convincing, don't believe us - watch this top gear review....... viewtopic.php?f=28&t=70

Thanks for your replies guys!! You've just confirmed pretty much what i was thinking really! I have looked at the 3 MPS but i've always been more of a sporty saloon or coupe person. I've looked at Nissan Skyline 350GT and S2000's but the Mrs keeps reminding me that there could be 'little people' on the horizon in the not too distant future so that's why i've come back to saloons again. (then again she wants me to get an Evo as that's what i've always wanted but it's just not realistic and i'd be scared to leave it anywhere! Let alone the skyhigh running costs!!) The think the 6 is understated enough and would sit safely under the 'low life's' radar which is a plus but the fact it's unusual to see one means it's still interesting to 'those in the know'! I've watched that Top Gear video and countless others on youtube and they are very 'convincing'! Hoping my local Mazda stealers will have one at some point so i can get a test drive but if there is anyone reading this in the Suffolk area i would really appreciate a taster!!?? I think the 6 has some lovely lines and the back has a sporty and purposeful look to it, the only thing i would say is that the front needs a tad more aggression to set it aside from other models- saw 'autoexe' do a good looking grill and splitter but only seems available in the States etc. Are most aftermarket parts scarce in this country? (not that it realy needs much!!)

Look at JDK's grill, finishes the front end off nicely. Welcome to MPSOC.

JDK's grill is spot on! Loving the stance too - ride height looks just right. Is that just springs or coil overs? Coming from the n/a camp, there's some new jargon to get to grips with on here like 'bpv's? (is that just another word for blow off value?) 'pg tip'? (just a kind of induction kit tip?) etc etc . I'm sure i'll learn though!

On the face of it and from what i'm hearing a DO want to go for it. Next thing is to have a go in one as soon as i get the chance and fingers crossed it's what i hope it to be. I drove an 05 Cupra R last wk and found that totally uninspiring compared with my Accord- the extra few bhp was hardly noticeable and the ride made the TypeR feel positively luxurious while still handling just at well. (imo) Also need tempting away from vtec- pretty addicted 2that sound (especially with mod'd air box and cat back!) and surge! Oh and just a few more months putting into the 'car fund' and i should be there!
