Hi all, I don't currently own an MPS, but looking to buy one. I'd like to know what are the common problems/experiences with a MK1 mazda 3 mps. I've read something about a sensor failure. Can anyone shed any light onto what to expect from; for example: Mk1 2007 mazda 3 mps, with 40k miles. I'm looking to buy one in the next month, apart from the high road tax cost, I need to know what I'm letting myself in for. Any info please?

Just have a look through the forum, you will find most information kicking about. Someone else asked this recently too: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=6813Apart from Tax, i dont think theres many hot hatches that can beat it when it comes to running costs. Also, due to the rarity, insurance is fairly cheap for the amount of car you get.

If it hasn't had a replacement O2 sensor yet, I would factor that in. Say £500 to be on the safe side. The plugs will need changing soon but you can get those from Amazon etc for about £50 per set. Make sure you get the regular NGK ones for the 3MPS.

Mazda wanted £340 for it plus labour. You can get them for about £200 from US, all in. The big problem with the front O2 sensor is that the thread is usually stripped when it comes out so the repair is an add on.

I'm in the trade, so could probably get the part cheaper. And would fit it myself

Is it a big job to fit the O2 sensor?

I got a garage to swap one over for me and they charged me 1/2 hour labour cost. ...... btw, I would'nt say it is a regular problem so don't worry too much!

Hello and to the forum. As DJJUT says not really a regular issue but it has been known to go on occasion as have other bits. There is not one fault really that is common on all cars, one may suffer from a little niggle and another may suffer from another small problem - overall they are reliable. IF something does go wrong though it can be expensive (like all perfomance cars really)

Just can't seem to find one for my budget at the moment without ridiculous amount of miles on the clock.
