Hi all, I am new to this site, and have recently purchased a 2006 MPS 6 and love it. However, i have noticed that under hard acceleration in 1st gear only the whole car vibrates. Not a lot but enough to make you think ''this is not quite right'' I did not notice the fault while test driving it and was a private sale so no warranty, but have taken it to mazda and the mechanic did not have a clue and charged me £30 for the privilege. Tyre pressures are ok (38psi) and the gear change and clutch feel fine. Some help would really be appreciated as car only has 29k on it and i am worried it is something serious. Thanks. Mark

wheel hop i recon, dont worry about it its normal, but you can solve it with uprated engine mounts. oh and 38 psi is too high should be 33 at he front and 32 rear

Lift the handbrake a tiny amount (2 clicks) and try the same in 1st gear...... any difference?

I run 38psi too, that's fine. Could be engine mounts as mentioned but that low mileage is doubtful. Rear diff brace still intact?

Check diff mount, or engine mount. Any particular revs or accelerator position?

Thank you all for your prompt responses, reall good community here..
I will try all of the suggestions above tonight after work, it only does it in first gear when giving it the beans between about 4000rpm and 5500rpm. Feeks like something is out of balance. Dont think the wheels are loosing traction. Could an engine mount or diff mount cause this vibration? Will let you guys know what I find when i get home. Hope i can get this niggle sorted soon.
Thanks again.
Mark

Hello again.. I was itching to get home to try the handbrake trick by de-activating the rear drive. Sure enough it seems to have cured the vibrations I am experiencing. Although the front wheels were spinning quite a bit and was hard to get power down, the whole of first gear felt smooth. May try this again tomorrow in the dry but am 95% confident it had remedied the issue. (Obviously can’t drive the car in this fashion but good test suggested by DJJUT) This being the case I have rang Mazda and explained what i have done, they have agreed to check it out this Friday free of charge. Any suggestions what it could actually be? Possibly something related to the rear drive but am still concerned about big bills especially with x-mas just around the corner. Thanks Mark

Well that narrows it down Oviously related to when the car need grip and the rear diff is asked of...... lack of oil in the diff, bad U joint, damaged driveshaft CV joint, etc. Worst case I would think will be replacement of rear diff which Mazda quoted me around £4600 2nd hand one from ebay was quoted at £550 including delivery. I drove mine for quite a while in the front wheel drive fashion and cannot tell you how annoying it was for everyday racing / driving.... loss of traction everywhere! Hope all goes well at the garage, let us know what the problem/solution is.

Diff mounts are a common fault on the 6.

If by "common" you mean that a bunch of lunatic Yanks who know how to do nothing but drag race broke their rear diff mounts by shoving 300+wlbft through the transmission after dumping the clutch at 6500rpm then yeah, it's a common fault I've not heard of any failing under anything like normal or even hard driving - only numpty yanks for whom the 1/4 mile is everything

Nothing to do with lunatic Yanks as you put it.

Well,
I've just got the car back from the Mazda garage and they are stumped... My dad also has an MPS 6 (07) with 14k on it and he kindly loaned them it to put it in the garage and both cars on the ramps along side each other to compare movement in mounts etc. They could see nothing obvious or loose. I drove my dads car and under load in first gear there is no vibration at all. Clearly something wrong with my MPS and it is sickening as spoils the drive. Mazda said they would send an e-mail to headquarters seeing if they could come up with a possible suggestion. Not holding out any hopes... Question is now, where do i go from here???

Might be a front bearing gone? Common problem, but not sure as its only in 1st at higher rpms.
My dad also has a 6mps, great fun on drives out with the parents!

Yeah I've had a couple of wheel bearings go but I could hear it at higher speeds in other gears
