Hi people, Currently drive a Clio 197. I am a member on clio197.net and find the forum a great place to keep up with anything to do with cars. So I thought I would join and see what I can find out. My Clio Me and my fiance are planning on selling both our cars (she has a black SportKa) and getting just one car. I drive a work van all day and my car sits at home and my fiance drives her car during the day. If we go out we take my car. So 99.9% of the time, one car is always at home. We have not long moved in together (but have been together a lot longer) so this has only just become an option. We were originally looking at a Seat Leon Cupra, but they are a bit underwhelming and we can't find the spec and colour we want. So we went to have a look at an MPS last weekend and we really liked. It has got all the kit my Clio has, all the kit my fiance's Ka has got, plus more. Going to look at another one at the weekend, hopefully it'll be a good one! Is there anything I need to be aware of?

I suspect the MK is faster. Unless is had more power, the would be I guess. It looks heavier. But then I don't think I could stomach giving the government and extra £200 a year for all the rubbish work they do with the 'up keep' of our road network. Plus I want a newer car than my 58 plate Clio, as well as having the things I have become used to such as keyless entry.
Did the mk 1 3 MPS come with all wheel drive?
Hopefully I will get a good test drive on Saturday, the test drive I had last Saturday was good, it was just a pity the car wasn't quite right for us. It had the 19" alloys which I am not keen on having (tyre costs plus ride quality) that had been badly repaired, plus some other bits that put us off the car.
Thanks for the welcome Funky.

Thanks for the welcome Funky. The mk1 isn't faster - just banter! They are rather similar and both FWD. The engine mapping and gearing are slightly different so a mk1 can feel a little more diesel like in the power delivery, however, both mk1 & 2 do a standing quarter in about 14s. The mk2 comes with better suspension and a stiffer chassis, plus you get more kit and lower tax. The mk1 is cheaper and generally considered better looking, although this is personal preference. The mk1 is easier to remap though, so if you're planning on some heavy modding, a late mk1 would be a good choice. All the MPS come with 18" alloys as standard. 19" means someone has fitted aftermarket - if it's a white mk2 with dark grey wheels they are possibly RX8 R3 rims fitted by a member of this forum...

Arran you are right about the tax, a real pain Only the 6mps was AWD and I would suggest sticking with 18" wheels. The MK2 has grown on me, the hood looks aggressive and nice level of equipment, certainly better than MK1. MK2 does look high on standard springs - The MK1 was available in two variations, as an aero (spoiler, mirrors & Eibach's) or naked without.

The mk2 is actually 5mm lower than the (lower) mk1 Aero, it's the higher bonnet line that causes an optical illusion! Eibach do lowering springs for the mk2 to drop it by about 20mm...

Thanks for all the Welcomes people. I can confirm that I will soon be taking delivery of this I have put a deposit down on it and collect it next weekend. Can't wait. Not bad condition, but needs a few little things tidying up, so I will be searching the forum soon on how to remove the silver interior door handle trim which the paint has worn away on and the door mirror caps so I can have them matched to the anthracite on the bumper. Then I will be looking to get the wheels done in anthracite. The one I saw last week must have had RX-8 wheels on it then. It wouldn't surprise me if it was someone from off here tbh, the car had wrap on all the badges and 19" anthracite wheels. Plus LED fog light bulbs, which is something I may consider myself in the future. So you will probably be seeing me a lot more on here in the future. Just need to sort out my avatar and that now, do I have to pay for that or should I be able to do it already?
