Hi,

I've Just picked up a 59 plate MPS this evening and happy so far and played with a few buttons and knobs on the way home to get accustomed with what its got.

First question: (not sure if its right to ask the question here) the car is 2 years old today and hasn't had a service yet, I know it should be 3k miles first oil service and then 9k miles or 12 months second service and the 18k miles or 24 months. The car has only done 300 miles so do I just go straight to the 24 month service or the 12 month service? I've phoned a couple of dealers and they have suggested the 24 month service but are they saying that because its more expensive?

I haven't spoken to Mazda UK yet regarding where I stand regarding the warranty. What do you reckon they will say

I'd expect warranty problems unfortunately, however you must of got it at a good price.... If it was my car, I would get the 'first' service done and take it from there.

Hopefully you don't encounter any trouble, has the car Definately only done those miles? Definately no damage CatD or the like?

I was sceptical when I seen the advert and emailed and asked what the actual mileage was as it must have been a misprint, but it wasn't a misprint so I did the normal checks, HPI, supplying Mazda dealer and obviously seeing the car in the flash.....it is a brand new car that happens to be 2 years old. The gentleman I bought it from is well known to the dealer and I suspect a lot of other dealers too. The guy at Mazda confirmed that they know the owner well as he is a very good customer that has bought many cars form them. He sees a car he like and buys it but because he has quite a few cars at his disposal some of them don't get used much, or at all. He is probably in his late 60's and loves his motors.

The car was a very good price for the mileage and year but no cheaper than an equivalent 59 plate with 12k miles. When I spoke to the supplying dealer about warranty issues he said that Mazda are pretty fair when it comes to warranty problems and would look at the individual problem and if its not associated to anything that would have been found under normal serving they would honour a warranty claim.....we'll see, but hopefully it won't need any warranty work.

Isn't the first service just the oil?

hello and :welcome:

as suggested I would get the first service done, they are very low miles but even if its been stood around (which it must have been) I would want to make sure the fluids were all Ok.

I bought a 2 year old RX8 from a dealer with 7 (seven) miles on the clock and the first thing I had done was a service.

Actually, thats a lie, the first thing I had to do was fill it up as you could only get from one petrol station to another (albeit quickly) before it ran out of fuel. Steve at the petrol station was a nice bloke though and the Shell points came in handy, let me know If I'm starting to waffle........

Cheers

When I picked the car up last night and managed to get through the traffic in Birmingham and got closer to home, I opened the throttle up a bit to see what the acceleration was like and there was a fair amount of smoke when I put my foot down, would this be because the petrol is old? or have I read somewhere about smoking turbos?

I'll get it into a Mazda dealer next week and take it from there with which service to have.

BTW I was one of the first to buy an RX8 8 years ago, I was on the pre-order waiting list for a year and sold an R32 (big mistake) to take delivery of the RX8 but then sold it within about 3 months, wasn't keen on it.

you will get puffs of smoke on hard acceleration (normal for the MPS as they run rich) and if it has only done 300 miles and not used for a while then again this would not be unusually - its the cars way of saying thank you.

Smoking at long idle is what to look out for but very rare.

always use 98 octane fuel

I filled up with Tesco Momentum 99 when I got it home last night. That must have only been the second fill of petrol since it was born

mmm, you wont get much help under warranty, i just had a claim turned down today because i had not bought the car from a franchised dealer.
I bought it because it has a full mazda dealer service history and thenext service is not due for another month.
