Hello all, forum noob here.

Fantastic forum which has already saved money and made my car a better car. (Tyre change to 225/40/18) After 85,000 trouble free miles in my 6 MPS I've decided on some tlc for the old girl. Given I do 30k a year miles (and in fuel!) what do people suggest I do in upgrades. I have a budget of £1500 or so but I do not want to turn the car into a noisy racer. I like the subtilty the car gives. The car other than the tyres is stock. More power/torque is the aim. Your suggestions on good stuff/people/places will be most welcome as this will be the first car I have ever altered. I live in Hertfordshire. Thanks in anticipation.

I'm similar in that mine is the daily driver and 'sensible' car in the household.

I've gone with a Cobb Short Ram Intake, Corksport Turbo Inlet Pipe and 2nd Decat. Intake and TIP were second hand and therefore under half price - both bought via this forum. Another forum member sorted me out with the decat. The difference is massive - a lot more instant power and pickup and you can fit the intake and TIP yourself with limited tools if you have patience.

Intake on its own is little effort and involves removing the standard airbox only and some jubilee clips etc. The result if a fighter jet noise on hard acceleration and fairly lets the turbo spin up. it also allows you to hear the blow off valve - I actually swaped mine out for a forge one - much better quality and seems to avoid leaking boost better. I'd stress this doesnt make the car racous or chavvy - its a non racer noise and you tend to get double looks from enthusiasts rather than scowls from all...

Turbo Inlet Pipe (TIP) is a bit more involved in that its the bit that connects the turbo to the intake and an hour of sweaty fiddly fitting - but I'm sure you'll manage if you read up on the how to's and/or ask for assistance from someone. It quietened down my intake a fair bit and released yet more power.

The decat I popped into the local exhaust place and bunged them 20quid to use their ramps. Unbolt four bolts - remove cat and re-attach. Theres another cat in the downpipe and it'll still pass MOTs. If you were worried its very simply to swap back too.

Decat doesnt make for a lot of noise, but it does give a more manly growl - particularly on cold idle.

I've done some fiddling about with other stuff and plan on a few additonal things before declaring done (ish). I'm going to get a Hypertech module that allows the map on the ECU to be tweaked - not a full custom map. Then a bigger Top Mount Intercooler and eventually a Stainless Decat back exhaust. The exhaust is partially to allow a smoother flow and partially because I dont intend on changing the car any time soon so an investment for the future in my eyes.

I've fiddled with comsmetics a little and like tinkering so no doubt will find other things to do - but Intake, TIP and Decat are very worthwhile and very cheap for the results.

I find that the 6MPS is a real sleeper and have only once had someone ask 'is that an MPS'

Hope thats usefull?

:welcome: to the club ..... for £1500 I would firstly factor in the cost of remap (Hypertech or Versatuner both around the £330 mark) as this will give the most noticable improvement:

http://www.hypertech.com/
http://www.versatuner.com

Next up would be the air intake and turbo inlet pipe at roughly £300ish

http://www.cobbtuning.com/categories/?id=3113

Finally and a must would be an upgraded top mount intercoller at roughly £340:

http://www.corksport.com/06-07-mazdaspeed-6/ms6-other-engine-parts-and-power-mods/

You may even have some change left for an upgraded bypass valve if you buy alternative brands. The above with a Versatune tune should see you near if not at 300bhp easily and a huge increase in torque. I would'nt bother doing anything with the exhaust as best improvement comes from changing the downpipe and is expensive to do.... the stock one is fine for what you want.

The only downside on buying parts is the shipping and customs costs which are lumped on top so bear this in mind when planning your purchases. If you need any more direction in buying parts just ask as there are lots of helpfull peeps here to assist you.

Well said, some very good advice
