Even standard though you won't lose many battles.

I Have only a few mods compared to some of the cracking examples on here and dont remember losing out to anything that wanted to play.

The only time it came off worse was when I didnt fancy a blind bend in the wet and the other bloke had bigger danglies or was just stupid......

haha, good to know, how about ford rs, i know they have more bhp and torque, but some on here have beat them, how?, is it because of the mods, also the cheapest map i have been quoted is £450, is that about right?

Depends what sort of map it is and who is doing it.

Be warned though the mk2 is notorious for not showing much of a gain with small mods, let alone just a map.

I am not sure anyone is just running a map with no other modifications on here, if they are they will soon put me right.

ah ok, standard it is, i havn't a clue what most of you are talking about, like the intake? and change this and that, probably safer to keep it standard, i knew i should have listened to my dad when he was working on his cars all those years back, how it would come in handy now,lol

Dads talks sense.

Dont let me talk you out of it though as iam sure to get a :ban: just dont throw money at it without researching first as its easy to ruin rather than improve

An intake is either a short ram intake or cold air intake which are far less restrictive than the air box and air filter that you have and will get more air in and help it breathe, in theory you can then remap to get better gains.

If you still think you would like to mod it then maybe start a ' what should be my first mod' thread get some suggestions and ask questions from there

If I could go back, first mod would be the Hypertech

Then if you were not happy enough with that you could then do more stuff as required.
You would 'feel' a bigger difference with hypertech where the intake gives you some cool noises... Very addictive once you start doing stuff... and expensive :hmmm:

Any standard mps should stick with a standard focus rs both just over 14s 0-100
Trouble is most focus rs's are now fettled with.
I would get it mapped personally on the basis that u run it for a few days and if ur not happy get a refund and put back to standard.

not that easy to get a refund though is it

i cant beleive we are suggesting a map as the first mod for a mk2, is there mk2 that just has a map out there performing well that I have forgotten about?

I think you can safely say that no mk2s appear to have responded well to mapping so far, unless you consider John's big turbo conversion, but that's a very different kettle of fish.
Don't remember hearing feedback from a mk2 user on Hypertech either!

all interesting fellas, i think when or if i do start, then i will use you lot to get a generall feel for what i should do first, a map is easier for me, i take it to a garage drop off and pick up, and i know what that is, whereas the other stuff i would feel stupid taking it to a garage and they ask questions about something i dont know, do you know what i mean, don't know if i explained that well enough
