Hi, just bought an MPS6, more by luck than judgement. I've been pottering around looking for an AWD car for a wee while now, thinking that I'll get one before Winter drives prices up. Hadn't even thought about a Mazda, wasn't on my radar at all. A coincidence of someone on the Saab Forum posting about he'd just driven his mate's and it was a great car, a link to the Top Gear ST220/VXR/MPS6 vid on Youtube and spotting one as I was wandering around Kinross auctions led to heart overcoming head and decision made then and there.
Probably not the safest way to buy a car but hey, I never claim to be very clever.
So, car is bought based on an external inspection, a quick gander at the inside and watching it start. What could possibly go wrong? I won't even get to find out how good/bad it really is until I get it taxed and insured and can remove it from the auction house.
Anyways, I've currently got a Rover 75 diesel for my work and a modded Saab 9000 Aero for my play, I look forward (with a little trepidation) to discovering how my new car compares.

Sound's like you just got in there and went for it mate
I'm wayyyyyy to fussy and would be giving it a good look over, but you've done it now so here is hoping it's a good one :D

What sort of plans you got for mod's? Plenty of info on this site to help you along

Thanks for the welcomes.

It's got a history, the logbooks stamped up to 72k (it's on 90k). Once I get it home I'll take it for some serious scrutineering from my tame mechanic and get a catch up done on any outstanding maintenance. Rear bumper has been introduced to a solid object at some point and might need replacing, hopefully a little touch up will disguise it though. Rear sills are fine, no sign of anything nasty.

No pictures until I can get it properly cleaned up, it's not particularly dirty, just needs a good going over to get it looking it's best.

Not planning any mods, I've been down that route with my 9000. However, once I've met up with some of you guys and seen what can be done, all might change

Ok, here's an update now that I've collected the car from the auction.
The car needed a jump start when I collected it, didn't think anything of it as I assumed it had been sitting for a while. The guy handing it over said that I shouldn't stall it as the battery was totally flat. Got in, sat admiring the internals, started wondering about the knocky/rattley sound that seemed to be accompanying the background idle.
Got the car round to the front of the building before it cut out on me
Bought jump leads and oil from the most expensive service station in Britain (Kinross).
Jumped the car and left it running after topping up the oil. Knocky/rattley sound still very obvious.
Decide to move the car and try and get it to my tame mechanic's garage. Rattle very obvious through through 1st,2nd,3rd but gets quieter in 4th,5th & 6th. Just about disappears when engine is under load but reappears when come off the throttle or when going downhill. Going fine down the M90 until Rosyth, engine starts to get louder and power starts to fade.
Come off at Rosyth sliproad and engine dies, coast to the side of the road. Battery totally flat, engine won't turn. Phoned the nice man at the AA who comes and takes it to my mechanics place. Mechanic hasn't had a chance to look at it yet but I'm going to pop along today to see if I can jump it and get a recording of the rattle. Will also take a copy of the workshop manual that Levl uploaded.
Wish me luck.
