Hi Guys and Gals,

I am in the market for a MPS 3, I went to drive a couple cars today so I had a few questions to ask.. Both main Mazda dealers...

The first one I drove was fine other then the fact the previous owner seemed to have not washed it one since they bought it (07 Plate, 21k), however on the test drive hit some traffic, and couple mins of stop and start traffic, smoke is billowing out the back, quite a bit too, I guess turbo seals?? Either way the salesman told me is all fine and they all do that. Oh how I laughed.. anyway they gave me a very good offer but I decided to see another one and come back to them.

The second car, also 07 but with 21 on clock was much better nick, this car thankfully didn't smoke at all, however it was a bit hesitant on pick up? It seemed to be a bit on/off till around 4000revs, I'm not sure if this is normal or just needs a good servicing?

I'm seeing one more next weekend, which should be very good, hopefully the one I go for. Sorry about the essay, is there a buyers guide to MPS 3 or any tips you can give me.

Cheers

Thanks, I will have a look around. These were both Main Mazda dealers so they came with their usual 12months warranty and breakdown. I will keep looking around of course. Hopefully this one next weekend will be nice.

as above really, neither of those were normal issues and should be avoided.

Normal things to check when buying any car. Service history etc.etc.

Good luck with the hunt

Thanks for the welcomes.

Another question I had, why have some MPS got the grey interior and some black. As the black one looks 10x better.

Cheers

The black and leather/alcantara interior was part of a revision from march 2008

Ah cool cheers. Was is a option as I only see it on some?

How hard is it to change around, I'm guessing just clipping and unclipping plastic bits.

Was there anything else that the revised 2008 ones had, I did read somewhere else there was a few TSB's for pre March 2008, is it worthwhile checking they were done?

Hello and welcome!

I think the above comments have proved useful and yes, my suggestion would also be that the turbo (seals) are on their way out which means you would be in the market for a new turbo $$. Personally I would leave it alone too. The second car should be running ok however it could be a case of a few servicing needs, such as cleaning the MAF sensor, perhaps checking the filter (should be right at those low kms though) and perhaps its due for a 20,000 interval service...did you check the oil?

Also check the water pump seals also, these can be a common problem also which leads to new water pump

LOL you say sorry about the essay.....
Check out here plus links....ALL you need to know from aussie owners combined, warranty fixes, typical problems, fixes, solutions etc.

I can't really paste the info cause there's too much, unless I just paste the tips for purchasing a vehicle?

Hey,

Thanks for the info and links, I read the warranty fixes before thanks to googling it but the guide is nice to read. Although it's always a bit off putting when buying a new car and you read the possible faults.

In reality I want a red 3MPS with aero kit and my local dealer said he has one coming in next weekend which he will give me a shout to come look at it as soon as it is in, hopefully it will be in great condition.

The best thing about both cars I saw yesterday was the dealer had had no time to valet them/ fix them up. So I got to see them in their raw flesh as the owner would have taken care of them, I was a bit freaked out and how badly the first car was taken care of, the MPS isn't a crappy banger shopping car, so you would have thought the person who spent their hard earned money on it would have looked after it like nothing.

Cheers

I prefer to see the cars before they have been prepared as well makes for a much better "honest" viewing
