Hi & to the MPSOC I just traded my RX-8 192ps in for a New 3 MPS on Wednesday 19th Jan 2011 & can say so far the MPS,is a better car,but there again have moved further up the ladder in cars !! I had 4yrs 9mths & 2wks of happy ownership & have no regrets of owning a RX-8 I suggest you check out the following Website http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk & you will find me there under GreySilver Beast for further info on RX-8's If Mazda bring out a New 6 MPS AWD,then I may go & buy one,as a replacement to the 3 MPS Good luck in your search...........

hello and welcome. I dont think it fair to compare the two cars really they are so different in many ways. The rex revs aroud to 9k and you can hit 70 (ish) in second gear in the 231. In order to use all the power you need to keep it well into its rev range. The best way to drive it is to always go into a lower gear than you think is the correct one. MPG on mine was about 18mpg which hurt. I only sold mine for personal reasons, not cost and not car issues however I was the first owner and knew how to look after it. Unfortunatly not everybody does. You need to check the oil as it uses it and do not turn off before warmed up or you flood it and cause other problems. It drives superb and better than anything i had driven before, I would love to go up against one now in the bends but the only play I have had was in a straight line and it (rx8) lost by quite a bit. (i am running more than standard BHP) The MPS is much more of a sleeper - everyone wanted a go against the Rex but in the MPS you choose who to play with and give them a big surprise My 3 returns about 26mpg which is slightly less on the wallet (although the mps runs 98, the rex 95) Would I buy another RX8 - Yep, would I sell my 3 for it - NOPE

Thanks for the last few posts, very helpful!
I'm about to drive my mates 230PS RX8 in a an hour, and there's a couple of 6 MPS' for sale within an hour of here, which I'm hoping are both still on the market and able to give me a good comparison. I think the winning will really be in the drive. Considering I'm deliberately going AWD or RWD purely for the sake of better (correction, different. Don't want to get 3 MPS owners worked up ;) !) handling, you'd think the Rex (nice alias btw!) will take it. However, the MPS has it's advantages in running costs, exclusivity and probably depreciation as well, so I'm 100% on the fence at the moment!
If anyone on here has a 6 MPS in the Swindon area and would like to help fight it's corner then I'd love to hear from you?!

when you compare dont get confused into thinking the MPS is dramatically quicker (it is a bit though ) the power delivery is different in both cars. MPS = lots of torque. RX8 = lots of revs and smooth. (this can make it feel slower than it really is) enjoy the drive

Welp, just had a rip in the RX8. I'm certainly impressed by how "sensible" it is for a light little roadster, with its big access suicide door setup and 4 comfy seats. And my, what excellent handling she had! hah. The back end stepped out a couple of times on the greasy black top but always felt very planted. I'm not too sure about the engine and power delivery though. Loved the noise, but feels a bit weird, kinda like an electric vehicle if you know what I mean? Bottom end definitely didn't feel like it had torque, just as everyone says. Still, when in the upper revs it did feel like it had lots of go. If only the MPG was better I reckon it'd be a winner. So, now I just need to try an MPS to compare, hopefully very soon! I know for tax reasons I should really aim for an early '06 model, but other than age, is there a bonus to going for a later '07 one? By the way, love the feeling of community in this forum, thanks for all the welcomes

Glad you liked the drive in the rex, all I can say is you will fall in love with the 6MPS when you drive one There are no real advantages apart from having a newer car with possibly less miles and the clutch issue will be sorted too, if I lived closer you could have had a go in mine

Just Googled for it and I can see a few mentions. Is it a very common issue? Do you know what specific years it affects up to? I'm hoping to test an '06 MPS at a dealers fairly close by tomorrow, do y'all in the know have any recommendations for detailled checks? Particular gears/revs to concentrate on? I'm actually swaying towards an '07 reg I found up north, so I want to test on one close by before I even think of committing!

I can't remember exactly what year it was but I'm sure the problem was sorted late 06 You will know for sure as soon as you drive the car for the first time if the clutch has been sorted, they are very snatchy if it hasn't been sorted you will notice it most pulling awayand up to 3rd gear Just look out for the usal stuff like service history, tyre wear and all the basic stuff and smoke from the exhaust, don't be alarmed to see a puff of smoke when giving it the full beans and changing up this is normal

OK, I've had my test drive and all of you are right...the low down power is almost addictive! Much more tasty than the high-end revvyness of the Rex. I'm officially swayed to the MPS I dunno how you 3 MPS owners deal with it though, all that power through the front wheels, doesn't it just screech into the far curb in a puff of smoke when you gun it in the corners?! I reckon you all must have a little case of the crazies! I've got my eye on one up north now, just have to find £3k to make up the difference. Don't suppose any of you have been crafty with credit cards before? I'm wondering if I can borrow £3k in cash from one, then get a new one with 0% for 12 months on balance transfers and shift the £3k straight away?
