Mornin' all,

I've had my eyes an 6 MPS for a while now, and I'm finally in a position to upgrade so it's currently battling for top spot on my shortlist of potentials.
This is where I'm hoping for your help!

Basically, I want a car with some grunt (currently have an '05 3 Sport) and really only looking at AWD/RWD. The 6 MPS and RX8 are top runners because I have fairly restrictive needs:
Under 5yrs old for job requirements
10k tops
Low-ish mileage
Not excessive insurance (I'm 25)

So, can you fight the 6 MPS's corner?! Has anyone ever owned an RX8 and an MPS? What're the pro's/cons against each other? I know the RX8 can have reliability issues and eats fuel, but it's a tad quicker and has great handling. Will the MPS counter that enough?
Also, does the 6 need to be run on 97/8 Octane all the time?

Hope y'all can help!

Hello welcome to the forum. Deltalimamike has owned and RX and has a 3mps, Blacksparkling beats also had a RX now a 3mps. I'm not sure about anyone that has owned a RX then a 6 though.

Buy a 6 they are better, fact.

:welcome: I had an 8 before then Mps, and I'll say one thing....... Torque is good! Get the Mps probably better fuel and oil consumption, I was always slightly dubious of the the rotary engine. Had a few issue with the rx8 rotary and touch wood none so far with the 2.3 turbo.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I must admit I've been swaying the MPS way because it's cheaper to insure, more versatile, and I think I trust the engine more. Plus there's something nice about it being so discreet (probably what helps the insurance to be fair).

What do you tend to get for average day-to-day fuel consumption? A friend with an RX-8 gets 18-20 on average, on standard unleaded. If the MPS gets just a few more and has to have super then that's still technically cheaper!

Any known issues I should look out for when shopping?

Welcome mate!

I'm pretty sure everyone on here will say get the MPS lol.
I've got the 3 MPS but the engine is awesome in the way the power is delivered.

I get 22-25 mpg if I'm driving normal / quite spirited now and again. But have achieved 30 mpg for the last 2 weeks by just taking my time really. But I can only imagine the 6 being a little less due to AWD?

Only thing I would do is get one pre 2006 due to the road tax being pretty much half? ... I think!

Rx8 a tad quicker than a Mps?!?! I'm sure people will argue with me here but the rx8 is not a quick car in my experience!
Been up against a 231 in my Old gta and absolutely battered it and my cousin beat it in his Clio 172.

Ok round a track the rx8 will make up for the lost time in the straights through it's more than capable chasis.

mps would be quicker in a straight line than a rx8

I am also going to take a guess that the MPS is more tunable than the RX-8 due to the rotary engine?...just a guess though!

Rotary engines will develop less power than the equivelant piston engine, for example a 3071r will push 400bhp on a 2.0 4 pot, but will only make around 350 ish on a twin rotor 13b

The MPS is faster eh? I was just going by some specs I found online, but on further inspection it would seem the MPS does take it.
If 25mpg is achievable on urban usage then that's much more reasonable too. It's looking good!

How about known problems?

Also, are there any easy mods to get a stock (non HDD) stereo to play MP3's? Can you buy the HDD add-on seperately for reasonable bucks? I have a USB/SD card/Aux adapter on my stock Mazda 3 HU and it just about does the job, is a bit of a faff with folder structures though.

There is a thread on a mp3 plug in the 6 section.

Aw man, I'm guilty of post-before-search! I'll be sure to give myself a beating for that.
