Hello I've registered on the forum as I have currently been looking at buying a mazda 3 MPS. I currently drive a Clio 172 Cup but hoping to sell up within the next 4-6weeks. I haven't had chance to drive an MPS however I like the look of them and looking at the forum they also have a good potential with modding. Can anyone help confirm for me what running costs are like, servicing, fuel etc. - do they have many common faults? Also what sort of warranty is offered, if any? Oh and what colour choices are available I really like them in Red! Thank you!

Are you looking at a mk1 or mk2? Not many faults that I'm aware of. Servicing as not the best first service at 3k next at 9k then every 9k, fuel depends how you drive they are quite thirsty, my current average is 27 got 36 out of it on motor ways

Hello and welcome. As as above on costs I average about the same on the better looking mk 1. Get it checked over like any other car, get a warranty where possible and you should be ok

Having owned both the Mk1 and now the Mk2:- Mk1 started with the "non-aero" version and then only in the "aero" version, the differences being aero wing mirrors,a larger floating rear spoiler and lowered chassis on the later car. Colours were Cosmic Blue (a greyish blue if that makes sense),Silver,True Red and Black. The Cosmic Blue was dropped and replaced by Pearl White around 2008/9. Later models included cruise control. VED is £405 last I paid but probably more now. Economy is decent on a steady run but begin to push hard and 25mpg is more like it. The ride is surprisingly good especially as you've got a Cup chassis. The Leon Cupra is a darn sight crashier ride. Mk2 has a more linear power delivery due to electronic monitoring of the boost, far better steering feel, tons of standard kit which would add £2k to competitors cars (although it weighs less than the Mk1) and the VED is down to £245 due to better emissions. I find the best thing though is that everyone stares open jawed at you as you glide past. I had a very fit woman PC gawping at me from her panda car earlier today

Red is the future ;)
Are u a member on cliosport? I have had a few rs's including a 225 which the missus still drives. The Mazda won't be as fun as the cup in the "twisties" but then you will know nothing is :op The 3 is very much grown p compared to the Clio but can be great fun with all the torque and boost ! Great spec and value too. And there's no hatch out there that will leave it on a dc/my dual which is great.
You really need to go and drive one and you will be addicted

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm looking at the mk1, I love the red, silver and black but I'd be happy with either. I'm on cliosport yes I'm just wanting away from my little clio and want something more refined that has the speed/comfort to go with it. Thanks for the info about servicing/petrol - I knew about the tax but can live with that. I do like the fact the mps can be so unexpecting and I cant wait to test drive one and make my own mind up. Oh and it seems like a nice place on here so thanks again for the welcome and useful advice!

Well I went to have a look at my first mazda 3 mps at the weekend, I loved it!
My car was up for sale that evening so i'm hoping as soon as it has gone I will be in the lookout for a true red mps, I loved the red and I was really impressed with the car!
