Hi all Found the site as looking into a 3 MPS as next car. Currently own a 2.2 i-ctdi Civic Diesel that ive owned for last 15 months, great car but want to return to petrol. Owned some great cars over the years inc Accord Type-R, Civic Type-R, DC5 Integra Type-R, MK4 R32, Focus ST3 tuned to 300bhp, Scooby blobeye STi with PPP and tuned to 346bhp and ahem *cough* the civic. On the lookout now for a 5 door hot hatch style car. Budget of around 8k and hoping to get a decent example. Have also considered MK5 Golf GTI, another ST3, the ST220 and the Saab 9-3 2.8T. Will be taking in some of the info here to help me decide - main question really is, is the real world mpg as bad as people say? ive heard avg of 20-25 combined! dont mind 20 mpg around town but combined may be a little to rich for me.....

Hello welcome to the site You should be able to pick up a MKI for 8k. In the 3 you should be able to get high 30's mpg on the motor-way easily. You definitely need to cross the Saab 9-3 off the list, the chassis is catastrophically awful.

Some good mpg figures there! be very happy with an average of around 27-30.
Jim - have you driven the saab? i have heard the chassis isnt great and handling suffers. Mind you i have also read that the mps isnt great handling wise due to lack of feedback in steering? I havent driven either yet so cant comment.
