Hello forum.
I am in need of a new car and bored of sensible diesel with average poke.
I always fancy hot hatch types and years ago went through 4 Lancia deltas of all description , including an evo 1.
My question is do any of you use your 3 as a daily driver for 20- 25,000 miles a year ?
I realise they will need lots of 98 Ron fuel and oil.
I'm looking at a Mk1 Aero only as these are my Favorite . They seem the best cult , cool car around. Nothing else jumps out at me as a great discreet road weapon. It's been years since I could have a blast and go Porsche baiting . By the way I know nothing about engines and could not even point at the turbo if it was on the end of my finger.

I use my mk2 as my daily and often do weeks where work commute nets result in me doing 500+ miles plus. Great comfy car for long journeys, however that's why I went for the 2nd gen as you get in my opinion more gadgets and bits inside the car that make long distance journeys more pleasurable. Driving at a sensible speed on the motorway as well you get pretty decent mpg. Not in the diesel mpg realm but certainly nothing to break the bank I've. found.

What sensible diesel have you got? What value? I'd consider a swap if it's something decent I've been thinking about going the other way as I never get time use the mps for anything fun anymore. The mps will cost you an absolute fortune to do 25k miles a year mind probably about £80 a week if not more. My tax is due next week as well I've got the £500 sitting in my isa ready but it's sickening me the thought of it

Depending on where you're based I'll be putting my mk1 up for sale in a few weeks.

Thanks for your replies. I am currently in Spain. However I usually have to drive 50 mile each way to work , 5 or 6 days a week. From Ormskirk, west Lancs to Stockport. I have seen a blue 58 reg with 56k on it for £5200. On the trader , no mention of service and has a few dings. Otherwise a few around £6500 ish , 07 reg 70k on them. I run a fiat bravo 165bhp 2.0 diesel with 105 k on it . I tried running 2 cars and it doesn't usually work for me as I save my best car then don't use it much. Then question why I bother with it. I may keep the fiat this time as it's worth v. Little and runs fine and cheap.
Your forum is great , full of info , I spent 5 days reading lots of it. Well done . I assume a standard car once set up will be the most economical to rack up miles on. Otherwise I would eat fuel , tyres and brakes etc. no to mention put strain on all the bits that are getting on for 8 years old.
If I could manage close to 30 mpg steady commuting I will start the hunt.

Hi there, welcome along. I use my mk2 as my daily and have been on holiday in it etc. I cover between 12-16k a year. Mine is currently at around 290bhp and I use maybe 65 a week on fuel, and whilst I don't drive it like I stole it I lay boost down when safe to do so. The mk2 is comfy, can't speak for mk1 but they are fun cars. Go for it!

I believe that with a good e-tune they are more economical, as the standard tune is very rich.

The seller has kindly answered some questions via email. I'm in Spain till Saturday , will call when I get home.
Fingers crossed it's a good car.

I know of a very well looke after red 3 mki, all tuning done by Justin Heath and the owner is an ex mechanic so has been well maintained

Thanks Spam. I was after a standard car to mildly tune for efficiency and a great smooth drive. Feel free to pass on the details of the red one so I can weigh things up. Aiming for lowish miles as I do a few.
