Hello everyone, my names Ryan and i'll be viewing a mk1 3 MPS next Saturday so thought i'd register with the forum and get to know you all i've done a lot of homework so hopefully will spot if its a bad one haha. I currently own a Toyota Corolla T sport and prior to that my Toyota Celica so will make a change seeing a different emblem on the steering wheel. I guess my only question is how tuner friendly are these cars? Ive read they can top 300bhp without any major surgery. Does the standard ECU allow for a good tune or is it better to go standalone? The main, and really only, reason for selling my beloved Corolla is that theres litterally no mods you can buy off the shelf, everything has to be custom and ive most definately paid the price in my wallet haha so just want a car that is very tuner friendly and maybe further down the road can buy bolt on parts (oh ive dreamt of just bolting on parts for so long! ) Anyway sorry to bore you all, just very excited to start a new project Ryan

to Ryan The mps is very tuner friendly, but has to be done in certain steps otherwise it can to lead too serious issues. The ecu is mapped easily with a cobb access port or versatune. Search them on here and online and you'll get the jist, 99% of us use Justin (DJJUT) on here to mapp us with said items, via email.

Many thanks for the welcome guys great to hear that the stock ecu is fine for tuning, the denso that comes on the Corolla/Celica is factory locked so had to buy an EMS-4. I know this is probably impossible but other than the obvious visual modifications, how can i tell if a car has been tuned its whole life and then just detuned to stock for resale? Many thanks and sorry for all the questions

Hi Ryan. along to It can be quite hard to tell. My advice would be to try and find a clean modded example. They cost very little more than standard cars, plus if you ask on here there is a chance they someone will know the car. They can then tell you if it's a goodun or not.
