Just joined and first thing, amazing cars... I do car detailing and a customer dropped a opalescent white MPS in for detailing and brake caliper painting and must say, I am impressed. One question though, it's a 58 plate I think Mk 1 and there's an air intake that splits, one feeds the inter cooler that's understandable the other feeds cold air to the battery??? Now there looks what may be an ECU near it so not sure what the reason Mazda is that have this design, can anyone enlighten me please.

Have you a photo of what you mean? An air intake to the battery doesn't sound right. Also, a polite notice, don't be advertising your detailing here unless you're going to become a trader of MPSOC.

Yeah the air intake feeds through the battery, not 100% sure why either But it is correct, every mk1 has it, just makes more sense to get a TIP/SRI for it

They do it to keep battery cool. If battery gets too hot this can cause it to catch fire. Very unlikely but is possable. Also the ecu is located onto battery tray in a black tamper proof box
