Hi All,

Firstly, many thanks for an excellent forum, it's already been a great help! :hats:

After missing several MPS 6's over the past few months we've (my brother & I) have finally managed to get hold of a nice one!

Did something I thought I'd never do - purchased & paid for her without seeing in the flesh or driving! Yes we're insane!

But thankfully she's gorgeous, reg'd Jan 07 with only 37K and completely standard as far as we can tell.

Haven't owned any 'quick' cars in the last 20 years but driven quite a few (mates with more dosh than me ), but the MPS is the first car I've driven that makes me grin more than my old Alfa 75 3L !! Plus it looks the mutts and is a complete Q car! :D

Apologies if this isn't right place to post this not much experience with forums, but we'd really appreciate if someone could recommend an MPS specialist or Mazda dealer in the north west / north wales region?

Ideally someone within a 50 mile radius of Chester, but we're prepared to go further to find someone who knows MPS's and most importantly can be trusted to treat our motor as they would their own!

Apart from the fact that she needs a service and we really want to get all the fluids changed asap, she's also got an intermittent hesitation around 2500 - 3000rpm and on light throttle applications.

After reading through bits on the forum, coupled with readings from a mates diagnostic reader- we're pretty sure the hesitation is due to the pre cat O2 sensor not working properly.

Unfortunately, apart from 'tinkering' we are struggling to do much work on her ourselves, no garage or even driveway to work on at the moment

Anyway, I really have bored you all enough now, Any help appreciated and thanks again for an awesome forum!

Cheers - Tim

Hello Tim, welcome to :mpsoc:

Personally I'd recommend Young Motors in Ambleside.
Probably worked on more MPSs than anyone else in the UK.

Many thanks for the welcome Jim, and the prompt response.

I'm afraid it's quite a way, 120 miles from us, but that certainly doesn't rule them out!

Thanks again.

Tim

Ambleside is a long way but to offset the cost he is way cheaper than a Mazda dealer. I have found Windsors in Wallasey good and cheaper than Mitchells.

That misfire sounds more like the post cat sensor if you are getting a cel. Had the same problem with mine.

Easy now, could be spark plugs too.

Yeah young motors is. Cheaper and I'm willing to bet he's MUCH quicker than anywhere nearer, done 60+ MPS's now and knows them and the short cut ways of working on them.

I hear you foxy, I haven't enquired as to the costs yet as we've only had her a week and diagnosed the sensor yesterday.

I'm not looking forward to it, I know if we go to a dealer I'll be sitting down when they give me the price!

Thanks for that though, Windsor's might be our best bet, do you know if their Wirral site is Mazda too?

As for the sensor, the check light did come on with a P2097 which apparently is 'post cat fuel trim too rich'.

Luckily we managed to snaffle the diagnostic tool for a couple of days and we recorded loads of data.

After what seemed like weeks (but I think was really an hour or so) three of us reasoned out that the issue was with the pre cat sensor.

Sorry, I've tried to type a coherent summary of our reasoning, but it would end up being a long boring paragraph of sensor values!

Having said that if anyone is familiar with the O2 sensor output values, fuel trimming, etc it would be great if they could confirm our diagnosis?

Cheers - Tim

Do the easy things first.

Disconnect the battery, push the brake pedal to get rid of any residual charge.

Your fuel trims have now reset.

Take the plugs out check they are gapped correctly and in working order.

Go from there.

Windsors in Wallasey is Mazda. I had my servicing done by them in the early years. The service manager (Mark) was very helpful. A member on here went there not so long ago and they diagnosed a problem without the usual dealer rip off. I don`t go there now because being a main dealer their labour costs are way more than independents.
Big jobs, like vvt, I would visit Youngs and make a day of it, or so , with the Mrs. Get your parts from the US.

Hi and welcome

We also have a monthly north west meet at the Trafford centre every last Wednesday of the month, pop up if you can it's always a decent turnout for Krispy Kremes doughnuts

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

We spoke to Windsors today and were happy to hear that the service history is up to date and complete, next one due at at 47K or in October.

Thanks for your recommendations, but for expedience we've asked our local independent chap to to change the fluids and see if he can diagnose the hesitation, so we'll see what he comes back with.

Hopefully meet up with you at the Trafford Centre in a few weeks.
