Just do it... I bought my 6 as i needed a bigger car and have loved it ever since. My old man has a Prodrive WRX and my 6 is quicker.. He aint happy!!

This is all really useful! tricky decision though. Lower tax on older model but susceptible to arch rust and bad clutch. New models = good clutch and no rust (as far as I can tell from my brief searches) but high tax. Anyone know if they made a change to, say, the undertrays or arch covers to stop newer ones rusting, or is it just that not enough time has passed for them to rust, and they will go the same way as no changes were made?

The clutch thing is adjustable with basic tools and about 15 minutes. There's a guide in the paid members section as I recall.

But yes. Buy one. You will not regret it...

The wheel arch rust - Sometime in 2008, I think, Mazda did a recall because of potential rust issues. I visited a dealer and he confirmed my car needed "treatment". Eventually had it done and my car is, so far, fine. Could be that you find an old one with no significant rust issue in the wheel arch.

The "easy fix" clutch adjustment is certainly a help because it lowers the take up point to a more comfortable level but it us still sharp and heavy.

I've had two 330ci's and one m3, I was after getting another M3 decided last minute to get a 6 as I needed more space for the little one. Never looked back! A lot of car for little money

Thanks for the link. Want to get the cash for my car in my sweaty palms before I am in a position to haggle with people though. Just been through that once. Buyer tells me 'I want you car, payday, definately, actually changed my mind'. This next buyer seems more solid but any deal can fall through so until I have the cash I don't want to set my heart on a specific example. Still, nearly there now, so hopefully not long to wait!

I'm letting it go for 3500 (which is a bargain) andthe buyer has blagged the missus to get me to pit a new tyre and discs on it too, so only really going to see 3200/3300. 4k for the next car already stretches me a bit as am getting married in 11 months so money is supposed to go into the wedding, but a 6 seems worth the extra few hundred. 4800 is too much I think. She's not keen on cancelling the wedding so that I get a nicer new toy lol.

Lmao nah, easy life. I go to work, fix stuff around the house and she does all washing, cleaning, kid stuff etc. And she works a night shift. I've got it easy, she can have her wedding, I'll wait a year then mod the 6 till the cows come home.

Do cows come home every night? Bit of a crap saying if they do. If they don't, where do they go???

Possibly a stupid question. Sorry. Here goes...

6 mps has pretty much all 'options' as standard. So what are the buttons by the handbrake? Looks like a remote? But some don't have a remote thingy, just one button - maybe a push to start? And some have flat trim as is the 'option' wansnt fitted. But there are no options so what are the things I'm on about?!

The remote your on about is for the built in satnav that some came with, the button is the other option (for the cheapskates lol) they threw in called a smartnav (which mine had), some came with a screen next to the steering wheel and some didnt.

yeah remote is for the Satnav, never heard or seen this smartnav tho

AFAIK on the 6 the only opitions were parking sensors and satnav think all the other toys were standard

Do they have an engine temp gauge on the dash? I guess the ones which drink oil smoke more from cold?

And is it normal for them to bog down when you accel hard from the lights? Apparently something to do with traction control, ecu limitations and dual mass flywheel?

They have a water temp gauge but unfortunately no oil temp, if you mean smoke as in turbo seals shafted then no they smoke alot more when hot, thats why its best to take it for a drive then pull up and let it idle for 10 mins or so, as for bogging down from hard launches then no, mine didnt anyways, the traction control should be off with any attempt of launching but have money ready for a new clutch as it wont like it if you want to do alot of them, oh and also i wouldnt attempt to do to many unless youve got diff braces in place as their prone to breaking, best bet is to come off the clutch as quick as possible then give it the beans.
