Hi Peeps Newly acquired 6 MPS, Black, late 06. Bought with full Mazda history (bought form Mazda dealer)fairly high miles with 87000 on the clock. The Mrs decided to 'total' the Jaguar S type 4.2 V8 two weeks ago (thankfully Mrs and kids and other driver without major injury)...so needed a car suitably powered car for family rather 'sharpish'..obviously taking a hit on the payout.. Indeed a very different car and will take a bit of time getting used to after the smooth V8, the 6 on idle seems to be a grumpy snorting angry Dragon..though no timing chain rattle on start up...even though the VVT thing does not see to have been change. I was advised it was stock and looking under the bonnet briefly I could not see any obvious upgrade but the exhaust has not met with approval from the good lady, as on arrival she heard it burbling from the kitchen in the back of the house.....There have been a few expletives form the lady on stalling in reverse (coming from an auto)... Having a quick peek underneath it seems there are Magnaflow (?) mufflers at least, but not sure about the rest of the exhaust pipes so I am not sure what else I should be looking for, if any changes have been made. 15 years ago I helped my 'bro buy and a UK Mazda RX 7 with a replaced JAP engine import..that was a great car so hoping the 6 will be also. The Jag forum saved me from many a horror bill, as the knowledge on there defied many a garage and on looking here it looks to be the case also. Oh well, out for a 700 mile round trip at the weekend, so I will see if I can break this Dragon in.... Pablo p.s I will sort a signature out..when I work out how..

welcome to the forum. with those miles i would possibly suggest having the VVT changed if it hasn't been done, i know some have been close with a worn VVT but no rattle.

Welcome! Probably a full cat back exhaust if it sounds like that. Mine was stock when I bought it and boy was it quiet! Also the standard tail pipes are crappy little pea-shooters that look lost in those big surrounds! LOL. New exhausts are not cheap so you have done well there

Cheers Guys Thanks for the welcome. Car performed faultlessly unlike myself on the 700 round trip.....wee bit noisier (a lot)than than Jag but was very surprised at the the pull in sixth..never needing to drop down to nip past cars on the A1; just with a genteel press of the peddle...almost feels quicker than it should. High speed cornering and manoeuvring better than the JAG with a much tighter set up but in town the ride is much more harsh but no thumps etc.. I will sort photo's but after pulling out of a slip road rather rapidly my mobile phone shot off it's resting place and the SD card will not re-mount! Car 1, phone 0. Thanks for the advice on the VVT will look to fund that. It's a DEC 06 so I assumed it had the adjustment on the clutch as it is a fairly low bite and not a huge amount of travel. Next I'll have to get underneath and see wot's there or not... Also I have paid membership like a good boy. Cheers Pablo
