Hi i have had cars like the 08 sti, 09 focus rs etc i had to sell up last year to renovate my house and its time to buy again. My wife and i have always like the looks of the Mazda MPS 3 gen 2, i have narrowed it down to 2 MPS as there is not that many about so it seems.

One of the cars has had a full engine change in December and the work was carried out at a Lexus garage with a receipt of £7,500, everything about this car ticks all the boxes apart from this and that its had 4 owners.

Are there any common faults? is this something i should worry about on any MPS? should i steer well clear of this car?

The other is a white one with 2 owners, 30,000 miles, dearer than the other as its newer. There are niggles with this car as it does not look well looked after, as i used to detail all my cars and no marks on any of them and this car really bugs me as the following- scuffs on the car with the black under coat showing on the front splitter, rear bumper, side skirts, all alloys scuffed. Inside the cap is missing for the SD card slot, leather worn on the corner of the arm rest, stain on one of the back seats. All these marks scuffs etc really bug me and makes me sad that it has not been treated with the care it deserved.

PLEASE PLEASE Help a Mazda Noob out many thanks Mark and Cath

Sounds like you have talked yourself out of the newer more expensive one if i am honest.

The other one that has had an engine transplant and 4 owners would worry me a bit if i am honest.

There are enough MPS out there for sale so i would say sit paitent and the right one will come along.

Welcome to the forum.

Personally, if it was me, I would avoid the one that has the engine change. Even though it may be a new engine, it just wouldn't sit right with me, and would in theory effect re-sale value if and when you come to sell the car.

The white one sounds like it has had a slightly hard life, with the wear and scuffs.

What kind of budget have you got to play with? I'm sure there are a few others within your budget, just be prepared to travel for the right car.

Thanks for the reply's, i have just found one slightly more expensive (only come up forsale a hour or so ago), same price as the 2011 but its a 59 reg, 1 owner, 37,000 and immaculate and the right color and full service history, i have put a deposit on it :loopy:, and off i go on a 2 and a half hour drive. we have been keeping our eye out for a long long time. Is there anything i should look out for and feel for on the test drive apart from the usual???? many many thanks

Hello and :welcome: to :mpsoc: . I hope the one you saw online is, as is, in flesh. How was the test drive or were you going to pick it up? In any case how was the drive?

Welcome to the forum bud.

When it comes to owners the car could've been registered to a garage. I'm the fifth owner of my car and I now that 2 of the owners were garages.

Thanks guys i have been and test drove the car. The body work was immaculate and so was the interior it has had 1 owner, i put my deposit down and go pick her up next sat :kick:
It is the 3rd/4th i have been to look at and it is the best maintained i have seen out of them all.

The test drive surprised me really all though not as quick as some of the cars i have had, but it isn't far off. the drive was smooth, not much road noise (unlike my Leon cupra WOW that was bad for it), the steering becomes lively under hard acceleration which i never got from any of the others, this to me makes it more fun to drive and keeps you interested rather than point and shoot, did not loose traction when turbo comes in unlike my RS did 9Granted it was a hopt day so that helps). I can not help think that the torque is limited in the first two gears?????
I was just as much fun to drive as NA car when pushing hard. Overall i can see me liking this car very very much, Lets the mods begin (don't tell the wife lol) :panic:
