Evening everyone I have owned an Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 for a little over 3 years and clocked up about 70k on her. It is now time to look at another car. I happened across a few Mazda 3 and 6 MPS in Autotrader and they caught my eye. The 3 is too small but I went to look at a 6 MPS this evening. Nice looking car and drove quite well. I'm swaying towards a purchase but would be good if you good people on this forum could give me some guidance on the following: 1. I do about 25k miles a year with a great deal of them being motorway. My GT gets about 26-28 mpg on average for this. On paper the MPS6 should achieve better mileage. My business miles get paid but I don't want a car that will be worse than what I'm used to. 2. Servicing and repair costs. How frequently do they break and is the cost okay? I have had an Alfa specialist in Bristol look after my GT over the years I've had it and he's happy to continue to service and repair whatever car I purchase. For example a standard service on my GT is about £140-150. 3. Frequently shown issues. Is there anything I need to be aware of that breaks commonly on the MPS6? Thanks in advance. Stu

Vvt/timing chain, if it's already been done nothing to worry about, turbo seals, it's hit and miss with them depending on how it's been treated previously, diff mounts they wear once launching the car you'd find the bolts would shear that hold the diff up due to shore mounts that's about it really, realiability wise there like any other car aslong as it's been maintained correctly shouldn't have any issues , first thing to do when making the purchase is to buy a oil catch can as the factory Pcv is rubbish

You can get 36+mpg out of the 3 on a run, an tbh with you i moved from a 6 to a 3 and their not as small as you may think , but i suppose its what you use/need it for at the end of the day...

Welcome to the forum mate! 25k miles a year! Mate you need a DERV not an mps lol. If you keep the car well maintained then you shouldn't have any major issues.

Welcome along mate.
I've had my 6 for about a year with no problems. My service was £140, so about the same as you were paying for the Alfa. Mechanically, these cars seem to be pretty good and I would have no hesitation in recommending.
MPG wise I average about 22-23. On a motorway run, I get 30ish and can get as high as 35 if I take it really easy (although that's only when the baby is sleeping in the back).

Thanks for the hello's everyone. Bad news I'm afraid. The guy I had agreed to buy the car from has sold it today to someone else. Not impressed and I can't see any others near my home or where I work so this might not be a go-er :(

Stu You will always have to do some travelling to find a good one mate because of how rare they are but always worth it for the right car, you'd be very lucky for one to come up forsale on your doorstep tbh.
