The VVT can be silent yet still be bad.
Only real check is to take the rocker cover off and look to see if the chain has caused any marks on it.

Like I said previous though, I'd do the VVT anyway for piece of mind

Little Garret unit in the Figaro isn't it? Probably just water vapour.

They do a Garret replacement but its a tiny Hitachi turbo trouble is it smokes when it wants - bit like a teenager I guess.
Had a guy who is renowned locally who did a leak down and said it was the head gasket and not to use - a year later and 8000 miles still going strong.
At least I should know what to look for on the MPS !

Right then gents, if I turn up and VVT needs doing £600 enough off ? What about smoke on idle ie turbo how much discount for that one as I am not averse to getting the work done if car is cheap enough ! Oh, and it needs service - done 62k what would that cost ?
So many questions so little time.

Service cost is no more than any other AWD car, if the diff fluid needs doing.

Is it a private sale?
If not and it's from a garage, I'd risk it, as if the turbo fails within 6 months then it's down to then to sort under sale of goods act.

Wouldn't looking for under 3k be too optimistic? except the seller is desperate in which case you should be careful!
