Hi All,
There aren't many decent reviews of the MPS 6, and just wondering what you guys think to it? Obviously you will be a bit biased towards it, but how good is it really? I had an RX8 last year, which handled amazingly, but unfortunately I was unable to afford to run, but I'm in a better position now and so I'm looking at an MPS 6. I also owned a Nissan Primera GT a while ago so I guess that's probably closer to the 6 than the RX-8.

Main things I want to know:
How's the handling? - I've heard it can feel a bit 'disconnected'?, presumably this can be fixed with a set of springs..
How easily attainable is 300bhp? - I understand it's a great 2.3 turbo charged engine, so I assume it shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks :)
Adrian

Hi Adrian. The 6 handles ver well for car of it's size, don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as the 8, though still it is excellent. The engine is a very torquey lump, and 300 is about £1000 away from standard, if you buy new that is.

Research the usual stuff (VVT, etc) but really I think you would find the mps 6 a step up in lots of respects. It is a surprisingly big car but it always surprises me how much grip it has with all that weight pushing through corners. It takes a lot to get it to start to lose grip. Power is already decent but 300 bhp is relatively easy to achieve (although I haven't bothered). The power is adequate enough for my use.

It feels solid. It's a real sleeper. Weak points are the diff mounts (I do intend to uprate these) and the VVT issue. Sometimes turbo oil seals also.

A couple of strut braces makes it a very planted feeling car...

Where's my post gone. Doh!!!

Ah well, let's try again.

But first, :welcome:

Regards the 6, compared to an RX-8 it will handle like a boat. But lower it and put a rear anti roll bar in and it makes a huge difference.
As for hitting 300bhp, that's very easily achieved. A stage 2 intake (SRI & TIP) and decent map will be in the 290's, add a up rated TMIC and you're into a winner there.

Thanks everyone, does sound tempting. I'm in the Leeds area, so if someone fancies giving me a test drive that would be amazing. :)

Cheers,
Adrian

More than likely because they are not for comparison really even if the OP had an RX-8 before. In the same way the RX-8 would lose out on cabin and luggage space (and even in straight line speed in most versions).

What I would say is that the largest saloon car I've owned but it handles better than all of the others I've had. My previous A4 and Toledo V5 were both prone to understeer when pushed hard and their limits were exposed way before the 6 thinks of letting go. Given the year of manufacture there is probably better around now, but the 6 always had a class leading chassis and the mps has a few tweeks to make it even better (mods aside). In oem form I find it a very decent compromise between being a car you can live with every day (in terms of ride on my commute, etc) and being a pretty serious performance saloon. What you do to improve the latter you will almost certainly lose a little elsewhere in terms of day to day practicality.
