Hi All

This is my first experience with Mazda let alone the Mazda Performance Series.

I am new to the forums, however approx. 3 months ago I purchased an MPS 6 with 54k miles on her.

Unfortunately, this weekend she broke a piston and rod with possible damage to the crank and block? (still waiting for a confirmation from the garage).

The funny thing is that it wasn't being driven hard, so really cant understand why this happened?
Luckily I have a warranty so that should cover part of the cost......but what a nightmare and what a fragile engine considering the flagship status of the MPS !!!

Hope you can help me out as I have some QUESTIONS:-

1) Any ideas on the safest / cheapest route to get back on the road with the engine running properly, including the cost?

2) What sort of price would I be looking at to get a pre-built forged short block OR how much to re-build my own ?

3) OR, Would it be better to just purchase a donor car instead ?

4) Lastly, How much should I expect to get if I were to sell the car as a non runner ?

Any help/guidance/suggestions/constructive input would be much appreciated,

Cheers

G

Hi and welcome to the forum mate!

I'm sorry to hear this mate!

+1 for Daves engine, it will be the cheapest and quickest route back on the road. You can buy the engine for a similar price of a new block.

:welcome: and not happy to hear about your misfortune. As mentioned, David Hastie has a forged engine for sale....... you can join the MPS owners page on Facebook and message him there too. Was your car standard? How many miles has it covered?

Sorry for all the questions but any idea what the car would be worth as a non runner ? it has just touched 57k miles.

Also, does anyone have a contact number for Dave ? if you could PM me that would be most appreciated as I need to get this show back on road ASAP!

Sorry to hear about this. From what I've read here, from people with similar zoom zoom boom stories, is that its the low end torque that throws rods on our DISI's.

Any performance engine can be fragile if not treated right. Perhaps the previous owner(s) thrashed it from cold, didn't let it cool down or regularly cruised at too low RPM and even tried to accelerate from there without dropping a gear first. Don't let this unlucky experience taint your opinion of the car because I think you'll be really happy if you get it back on the road, especially if you drop in Daves engine
