Hi, just thought id say hello.

Im considering buying a mk1 MPS, but dont really know much about them other than they use the ford/mazda developed 2.3T duratec.
Do they share any other bits from the ford platforms?

I have to admit being a ford fan at heart, but theres nothing that really ticks all the boxes in budget at the moment.

Im looking for something with plenty of power, yet comfortable to live with - my current car is a 380bhp supercharged fiesta ST, so i know all about the duratec range of engines, and thats kind of whats pointing me towards the MPS.

Are there any common issues that i should be aware off when im looking at cars, do the bodys/shells weather well, any rust issues, boxes and running gear tough?

Thanks for any input, richard.

You might have offended us all - it's a Mazda/Ford engine!

You might very well believe it is a Ford block when you see it, it's all stamped FoMoCo!!

Main issue with the Mk1 is it's so slow compared to the Mk2 . The VVT are prone to failure on earlier models, and the turbo seals are shite so check for smoke on idle.

Nice, but a little bit out of my budget - really not looking to pay anything above 6k :(

the ones ive been looking at are circa 50/60k on the clock.

how well do they respond to the usual easy mods - remap/filter/cat back etc?

Im pretty settled now on getting an MPS, it's just a case of finding the right one. Im looking to spend in the region of 6k for an 07/08 plate with obviously as little mileage as possible. What i am unsure of is wether to buy a std or modded one. Im not put off by modded cars, obviously ^, but dont want and potential headaches that comes associated with them... Hmmm... think i'll buy depending on the owner rather than mods...

What are the clutches and boxes like with all that torque? Do they wear well/fragile?

Thanks for any comments.

I was at 65k all modded with mine and my clutch looked fine when I swapped it for a better one.

slightly out of your budget but Gunther at TotalMPS is selling a black 07 plate aero 3MPS, with a newly built engine and brand new gen2 spec block, new turbo, driveshafts, new discs/pads, refurbed alloys for £7500. pretty sure it also has a Bilstein B8 kit, catback exhaust

I would've bought that 1 if it was for sale when I bought mine.

Welcome to the site. Like the Fez. A lady that works in the office of the company I work for has a lovely white one with very similar if not the same wheels. Really quite like it. A mate of mine also had a white one with blue stripes a few years back. Can't help thinking Ford really held back with 150 BHP stock though.

Thanks for the welcomes :)

Well i picked it up tonight, a 2008 MPS 45k on the clock, running 320bhp, with various mods on it - ill get a bit of a project thread going when i get chance and pay for membership.

Initial thoughts are, its a nice understated quick car. A few bits to do, and knocks to sort out, but nothing to much trouble :)
