HI, I have had my car for a couple of weeks now, I havent had much chance to drive it yet. Couple of 80 mile trips is about it so far. I love the look, I love how it drives and feels BUT, Can't get on with the clutch, keep stalling it in 1st or reverse and I am dreading hill starts out in traffic !! (yeah I know I am sounding a bit girly but...) my old mazda clutch was sooooo easy. This one seems to have one small point where you have to get it right and for some reason I let the clutch up then drop the revs dont get it to biting point then rev it more because its not moving and then stall. Trying really hard to tell my brain and leg its a different car, different clutch and to lift my leg higher, its like being a learner again and I have been driving over 23 years! My other small problem is that its a lot longer than I expected, bit of hassle to get in and out my garden, cant shut the gate unless I put it straight in garage which is TIGHT, or back it part way into garage, shut the gate, then move it forward to shut garage door. I was really looking forward to getting this car, spent months looking and now I have this I should be over the moon, I love cars and have had the pleasure of driving many really nice, fast and special ones. So why havent I bonded yet with this one ??? I am even wondering whether I should have gone for just a 6 sport with leather interior Maybe I am just being a bit emotional at the moment as my nan has just died, but something is not quite right........and it is bugging me or do I need to just get a GRIP!!

So sorry to hear of your nan passing  As for the gate problem, get a sliding gate, problem solved. As for the clutch, yeah its a bit of an awkward one in comparison to other cars, there is a bit of a "fix" for that, I'll find you a link. And yeah, get a grip

The early 6MPS had a snatchy clutch with a high take up point. The only cure for the snatchy clutch is to fit the modified version with pedal set etc in some cases. Cost you £100`s. Pity the original owner didn`t get it done under warranty. I got mine done only because I learnt about it through the precursor forum to this one. The high take up point can be adjusted which makes it a lot easier to live with and is a diy job if you can wield a spanner under the dash.

Sorry to hear about your Nan, Stress can always cause you to look at things and get you annoyed about relatively minor things. In all honesty the 6 sport is just as long as the mps so you would have the same niggles with the garage. The clutch is a bit bitey (I came from a 2zz engined MR2 with a very easy clutch) took me a little time to get used to the clutch in my 3 but it comes with the territory on these car although the adjustments thread could help. Welcome to  by the way

Give it time and you will get used to it i'm sure. I hated the clutch on my 3 and my wife at the time had only been driving 3-4 months really hated it but we ahve got used to it now and it just feels normal

Really worth tackling that adjustment, pretty simple once your looking in the footwell , just don't go mad I went to far and it would go really hard and springy, little bit at a time

Clutch is a bit of a pain and as linked above can be adjusted for bite, but it will always be a bit grabby, which is a consequence of it's beefy nature to handle oodles of torque. I use the Senna method to take up a clutch which is to do a double bite - you blip the throttle as you bring the clutch up, and it should bite as the revs start to drop, at which point you are blending the throttle in as you depress the throttle for a second time. The inertia from the initial blip makes it far less likely to stall, and you can get a much harder take up on the start (quicker off the line  ) than you would with a conventional blend and lift. Takes some practice but it's a great method, especially if the engine has low inertia or the clutch is springy... To really fall in love with the car you need to come to a meet and go for a drive. What sort of area of Surrey are you in?

I've done 5K since I got the car and I still have the odd "moment" with the clutch if I'm not concentrating - driver mod required? Saying that I'm well happy with the pedal layout as it makes heel-toe-ing the down shifts a breeze. I haven't done the pedal adjustment yet but it's on my to do list.

I'm in Dorking area. I plan to go down to Goodwood at the end of the month to watch the mps track day. Who else is going?
I never knew how much of an issue the clutch was, having read through the threads I feel a bit better that its a common thing and not just me.
