Hi guys! My name is Adam and I have just bought a Mazda 6 MPS. My last car was a Toyota Celica 190, great car but I have a 4 month old son and it just was not practical any more so it is going to have to go (I have not actually sold it yet!). I wanted something that looked smart and was faster than the Celica, but also with 4 doors and a big boot so I could tell the wife I was buying a more practical car, so far the MPS seems to be spot on :-) I wasn't planning on modding it when I bought it but I am starting to come round to the idea. One thing I miss is the sound of the engine in the Celica as it revved up past 8000rpm! The MPS is nice and quiet for tootling around town but when I feel the need for speed it would be nice if the loud pedal was... well.... a little louder ! LOL. I guess a CAI could be a good start ?! And here she is...

Hello and aboard... Nice motor Upgrading the air intake will provide more whooshing / sucking in air noises and does not or provide the typical noise on non-turbo cars. Still sounds great  Maybe look into second cat removal - £100 or so and provides a bit more exhaust note and free's up the flow slightly... Very common mod on here The Davie de-cat as it is known

Indeed, the davie de cat is spot on, fits like a glove and only takes 20 min, gives a deeper note out back  Oh, btw,

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas.
Ok then, first (of many!) noob questions coming up... A de-cat is bypassing / removing the catalytic converter if I am correct ? That sounds good, but will she still pass an M.O.T ? And if not then how do you guys get around it ?
Depending on the answer to the above I may be interested Coop ! Once I have sold the Celica I should have some cash for one or two mods :-)

Once I have sold the Celica I should have some cash for one or two mods :-) Hi and to the forum People have recently passed an MOT with both or just the second one removed so the emmissions part does not seem to be an issue. However, I believe the MOT regulations have changed in that a visual check by the tester is made to ensure you have the same amount of cat's attached to the car as when it left the factory - this could be an issue...... only if the tester finds out or knows how many the car should have. If you remove the first cat you would be advised to get a tune to take that into account.

Only a 15 min job to replace the de-cat to a cat again, happy days. Don't sell your cat.

Cheers for the info guys. I presume a de-cat is totally safe... If I do start modding I definitely want to stick with low risk (or even better no risk!) mods.
Next noob question... What do I replace the cat with ? Is it just a cat-less pipe rather than the standard catted pipe ?! And how much is this roughly ?
Apologies if this has already been covered, feel free to send me any links. I am very new to this and am NOT mechanically minded so this is all a bit daunting at the moment.
