Just remember the 6 is getting older and may need more attention. Also think about the extra things that can go wrong such as the rear diff etc.

Just my opinion, but i personally wouldnt choose a 6. Although if you wear slippers, smoke a pipe and only drive the car to get your pension and your little blue pills from the doctors, the 6 is the car for you

You used to be a nice guy Ross : evil :

I would get a DC5... Great cars

My mate sold his DC5 about a year ago.. was a cracking car. just pity bout the lack of torque.
I would say 6 but its suitable for me and the family!

4wd would be a good advantage like said snow/wet etc. tbh thats what more swayed me over the 3. much better chance of getting about when the weathers keek!

This topic could go on forever with 3 and 6 talk..

Personaly i would go drive a few and see what you deem suitable:)

I'll put up some pics tomorrow as im away today, but its an 04 NHB with mugen carbon fibre bonnet, buddyclub spec 2 and Red recaro interior :). Extremely loud on VTEC!

I do kinda miss the lack of torque sometimes but the car does let you get off with murder in the corners and the addition of a 6th gear really helps on the motorway. But I don't like to keep a car for more than two years as I think life is too short to stick with what you know, never been a fan of common cars-ala focus ST's,golf GTis or WRX's.

Hi Cam and welcome aboard

As mentioned there are pros and cons for both models depending on what your requirements are. Both are practical, rarer than most (I think somebody posted that there were more Ferrari Modenas registered in the UK than the 3mk1) and not many people know what they are and what they're capable of.

The 6 is notably a larger car than the 3 and personally I wanted something mid-size hence the 3. I think you can drop the back seats in the 6 but the 3 is excellent for cargo...I can even get my 20 inch mountain bike in the back without taking the wheels off

As for performance there is little between them from a standing start unless you're up to your wheel arches in H2O. Get moving and a stock 3mk1 is considerably quicker through the gears and is actually quicker than a stock S3 and a whole host of other quality motors:

http://www.zeperfs.com/en/match1388-1391.htm

I'd disregard the 0-62 in 7.2 secs though as that must have been Maureen from driving school in a rainstorm....more likely the other way towards 5.8 especially in the dry

Whichever one you choose I'm sure you'll be well chuffed. Good luck

:D , has a decat aswell.

I don't know whether I will go for a sleeper style blue MK1 or a smart looking black one with black wheels, the one on sale here is very very nice.

I've been doing some reading on your tuning/versatune, its possible to get these cars to 292bhp on a stock motor? : eek2 : Thats awesome if its true.

I have just gone the other way and sold my Mk1 3 mps and got a DC5. Having driven them back to back and living with them i have to say i prefer the DC5 but i may be a bit biased at the moment. The torque of the mps is a def advantage however there is nothin between them up until triple digit speeds. The one thing you will notice is that the 3 mps will not have the same flow and ability to cover ground as quickly as the DC5 even with the diff. I did really enjoy the subtle look of my MPS its was good for suprising unsuspecting BMWs
