Hi there, I am looking at getting a 58/09 3 MPS Aero. I have been to test drive an 09 plate one and I was very impressed. I currently have a 51 plate Accord Type-R and love it to bits but I fancy something newer with LSD and a bit more creature comforts. I have searched around this and other forums quite a bit to determine and common problems and have read different things regarding the Conrod situation. I intend to keep mine stock standard and always use V-Power on my Accord anyway so no probs with giving the correct fuel to the Mazda. Is it pot luck on the likelyhood of engine problems, I have read that the late model ones run a richer map as a safeguard, any confirmation on that? The only other thing that I am concerned about is the amount of Mazda 3s that have rusty rear arches, I believe Mazda put something in place to fix that on post 07 models? One last thing, MPG for a "varied" drive? I only get 27-28mpg in the Accord at the moment so I can put up with slightly less, my Celica GT-Four used to do an average of 19mpg which was a bit too much. Anyway, love the looks of the Mk.1 as it looks understated but "chunky" and because it is a 5-door, couldn't stand to own a Focus ST, too asboish for me. Cheers Andy

hi, welcome, keeping your car standard is the best way to keep your rods alive. if you get a mk1 face lift you will hve the laterr vvt actuator which is a good thing. with day to day driving you will be about 24mpg but if you try to drive economical you will see 24-30mpg but on a run 30-38mpg. you will love it they drive great, way better then any top gear review.

Also watch out for smoke from the exhaust - Mazda finally issued a "ventilation kit" to solve it, but people have had to overcome it in other ways (raised idle speed, etc).
If only you were down south, I'm looking at parting ways with my white 09 to fund home improvements.

Thanks for all the friendly replies I will probably be looking to buy when I come back from holiday in July, silver 09 plate would be ideal, I have seen one near Birmingham for £7995 which seems quite cheap for an 09. Anyone had any rusty rear arch issues? Cheers Andy

Hello & along! Yup great choice of car, I've owned my 2008 MPS for nearly 2 years now and still loving it. You will be tempted to do a couple mods though

That's the red one I test drove. Was pretty mint except there was a heavy kerb chunk on one of the alloys and it pulled to the left. The ash tray had seen some Ciggy action as well. They offered me £1300 for my Accord Type R, 84000 miles 51 plate lol
