Go by the book figures too.

When I had my vectra vxr the tyre pressure per the book were 42psi all round. I thought that was way too high and spent almost 6 months running on 32psi. Eventually I tried 42psi and it was millions better

Wow 42psi sounds well high, don't think I've ever ran over 36psi!!!

I know it is a different car but the standard pressures on the 6 are 38psi.

Helen, Sounds to me that your tyre fitter just overinflated them to get them seated properly and then forget to set the correct pressures. I've had brand new cars delivered with 10psi over.
