Hey there, I'm Jon.

I currently own a Civic VTI-S. It has been a fab car but as its 2000 reg it's getting on a bit :(

So hopefully in a couple of months I'll be getting a new(ish) car and have been looking at the Mazda 6 MPS.

What are the things to look out for etc... Thanks :)

Hello :welcome: there is lots of info on here for you.
What is it an MB6? I do like them.
Main points. check for high/lower tax band age dependant.
Has the clutch been revised
All recalls done for body work.
VVT rattle
I think that's about it

Smoke on extended idle. Could be something cheap or expensive.

Thanks for the reply :) and yeah it's an MB6. I love it to bits and it keeps up with quite alot of cars (even an ep3 type r believe it or not lol) but as its old there's things cropping up all the time :(

What's this VVT thing that people talk of on the MPS? I read one topic where a guys engine was totalled? That scares me haha!

Variable Valve Timing. There is a lot of info about it on here. The best description is the TSB issued by Mazda, also on here.

Hello and :welcome:
The percentage of cars having VVT failure is very low... But it's something to be aware of.
Great car for the money that's for sure!
I've had my one for 18 months with no problems. - got a flat battery but is was the original and about 5-6 years old! :)

Another thing to be aware of is the quality of the paint - not as strong as Honda and more prone to rust if neglected... Most are looked after however

There is a good buying guide on here somewhere

I'll drag a couple of pics out soon :) I'm hoping to keep her (whether off road or on the road). The only negative thing against the MPS6 at the mo is the fact the back seats don't fold down so if I needed to transport furniture etc it'd be a pain!

The cars I'm looking at at the moment are:
MPS6
Focus ST (that noise does sound good despite the badge)
And an evo but I haven't done an insurance quote :(
