hi i am new to this forum. I have a mazda 3 mps 2009. i have recently put on fedral formoza f2 tyres on my car the pattern is very similar to the bridgestone.and it feels like when you power down the back wheels want to meet the front . sort of flexing from side to side. would it be the compound of the tyre. before this i had bridgestone potenzas on it . the car used to stick to the floor with them but not with the fedrals on. I was told that you have to get used to the feel of this tyre which is different to the bridgstone. i also thought it may be the suspension. The car has been up on the ramp and completly checked all fine. HAs anybody else experienced this. regards Helen.

Bridgestones do have a very rigid sidewall. Also new tyres do take a couple of hundred miles to scrub in.
Might be worth checking the tyre pressures too, 1 garage that fitted me 4 new tyres on the scooby must have been blind, the pressures ranged from 28psi to 47psi no 2 tyres had the same pressures!

In my experience with tyres you either like them or hate them, or you just get used to them,but they do need a few hundred miles to wear in, or a few fast laps round a track

i hated my bridgstone but love my goodyears. never had any experiance with federal. did you change all 4?

yes i changed all 4 tyres. thank you for the advice. i was just wondering if they were safe.

well thats up to you. i had bridgstones on the front and nankans on the back i thought i felt dangerous. hence they got pulled straight off and goodyears put on. if you dont feels safe driving it. i would get them off

Are the federals not a budget albeit middle of range budget type of tyre?

yes they are classed as a budget tyre. although i paid 89.00 each for them. And i would never put 2 different makes on the car . no i shall run them in for a few hundred miles if they still dont feel right i will put new ones on.

I'd also agree on the pressure check. I has some fitted to my Clio and went to Wales, the car felt very strange. Found the tyre pressures were 7psi too high on the 2 new tyres and one of the old tyres was 5 psi under.

Firstly, a car will always feel more stable on well worn tyres since you dont suffer tread squirm, but it shouldn't feel like the car is constantly oversteering. Check your pressures. If you set to 33psi front & 32psi rear then you should see no unusual habits.

It would also be worth getting the tracking checked as you may have knocked the rear out of alignment slightly. If the rear wheels look like they (when looking forwards) point outwards at all - or the old rear tyres were heavily worn on the inside shoulder - this is an indication that the rear tracking is out.

You generally do get what you pay for with tyres too. Some budget brands can work great with a particular car. Others don't. I had o.e pirelli p zero Rosso tyres on my car when I bought it and the first set was so good that I went for the same again, despite them costing £198 per tyre at the time

When I changed my tyres from original Bridgestone 215s to Dunlop 225s last year the handling felt weird at first but as has already been said they just need to bed in so to speak and they've been in the wet and dry

Thinking of trying a different brand next time though just so as to get an idea of which I prefer.

Thanks to you all for your tips, and yes when i got the car back i had 47 45 43 and 42 all different pressures. so i have put 32 in them which is what i always put in them . in fact what ever car i have which has been a few and always high performance i have put in 32.
