sorry for being really dumb but the big black box with the mazda badge on it in a mk1 3mps is this a air filter or is the air filter in the the box to the right of it buy recirculating valve. if it is what is the other air filter for.? also in the boot on the left down low is a round thing with what looks like a fan inside it anyone know what this is for.. sorry if these sound really stupid questions but just been bugging me....

The big part above your engine is your intercooler.
Box to the right is the airfilter.
No idea about the boot thing, might be the flux capacitor... ;)

Aircon will be in a cylinder/canister, the inter cooler is the big flat silver thing above your engine but under the huge plastic cover with the Mazda badge and 2.3 disi on it.

 The intercooler is to cool the air entering the engine. I had to try and explain this to my girlfriend a while back. How long have you had the car? What have you owned previously?

please dont be to harsh on me i used to drive a evo fq300 so i do like nice cars i just dont have to much of a cue when it comes to the workings of them and in my owners mannal its shows it as a air filter. doesnt show the the layout of the mps version i take it..
the small round thing in the boot on the left i now think must be the tailgate warning buzzer.....

Take a picture. add arrows and post so ee know what you're talking about.
Nothing wrong with having no technical nouce. just leave any servicing and mod work to others. given your current level of understanding you should not do anything yourself. not a criticism, we all need to learn!
