Do a google search and you'll see it's not exactly a one-off, but I also firmly believe it had nothing to do with the mapping, as that was independantly checked and found to be a very nice safe base tune. It seems upon further investigation that the 6 & 3mk1 conrods are very much the weak link. At least the mk2 got forged internals, which will prevent this happening to those lucky beggars!

VVT is the valve timing tech right? How can this cause a thrown rod??
Best regards What a terrible story. The only connection I can think of is that the valve timing failed big time causing the the piston to hit a valve which caused the con rod to go.

Does the occ come with pipe fittings etc? If so I'll take it.

dazsmith wrote: Thats bad luck, hope you arent hit to hard financially and can sell whats left pretty easily Well, needed to have a hard think about a way forward from the situation. Car wasn't under warranty, no insurance claim as it was a straight engine malfunction.......caught between a rock and a hard place! Just got the following left, will need to put another FOR SALE advert up: 6 MPS alloy wheel - Good for a full size spare. Part worn Toyo Proxy tyre to fit spare wheel. 6 MPS Pipercross Panel Filter. Full set of 4x 6 MPS Driveshafts (Bought as spares as cost £400+ each from dealers).

Phil, as I already mentioned.... I am shocked and hope all works out. I considered asking if you wanted to half on a cheapish used MPS 6.... engine for you, rear diff for me and break the rest..... wished I did now. All the best mate.

Doh, that would have worked as well . Never mind, hindsight and all that . Cheers for your help anyway Justin, just a shame it's come to this. Try the lad I got the driveshafts to see if he's still got his rear diff. I'll PM you his details, gotta be worth a try?

Really feel for you... You done everything by the book and could of done nothing different to prevent it, you were making really great progress too... Gutted!! I'd be the same as you, far too much money to get it back on the road.... All the best for the future and keep us updated with whatever you do next I'm considering buying uprated parts now... How many miles did the car have?
