Hi all  I've had to part with my motorbike for something more "sensible" so it was obviously going to be a Mazda 3 (didn't tell her it was an MPS though ;) ). It was a trade in at work with a couple of months ago with 50k on the clock, full Mazda history and was driven pretty badly by a the previous owner (kerbed wheels, little dents and scratches here and there and the smell of dog inside!). Got it nice and cheap though so could see the potential in it. Don't have any before pics unfortunately but this is how she looks now:    I've noticed there's a bit of a rattle for a split second on cold startup so will have to head over to technical I think. Or is that just normal for one of these? Cheers

Probably just the timing chain before the oil pressure activates the tensioner. Restart it after start up. There should be no noise. Nevertheless, get your people to check the vvt just in case as it is an expensive repair.

Hi mate mine does the same only on cold startup . But fine after that. All checked out been told all is good. Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum. If its any consolation, my mk2 makes a slight rattle for a split second or so on a cold start, but if its warm or turned off and then back on again, it doesn't do it. It's probably like foxy said, timing chain before the oil pressure activates the tensioner
