Hi all, My name is Laurence, I'm 20 and I'm looking to buy an MPS  Been looking for a car to succeed my 95 Celica ST for a while and I've looked at pretty much everything, I'm taking a liking to the Mazda but I'd like to find a bit more information about it.. What kind of mpg do you guys get roughly and what kind of driving style (lead foot or?) What major/minor faults do these cars have and at what kind of mileage? I read something about turbo seals and engine mounts but what I read wasnt too clear. I understand the Mazda 3 MPS is FWD and the Mazda 6 is AWD.. other than the obvious size difference and the drive, are there any other major differences in engine? reliability? performance? etc And lastly, have you got any pictures of your car that would majorly convince me to buy? :P If you can offer any advice that would be great. I'm looking at a budget around £8,000 ish

Hello & Well you are in the right place if your interested in the MPS For me I get between 24-26mpg at the moment but that's usually short trips to work with the occasional blast once or twice during the week. I got 33-35mpg on a 100 mile trip sticking to about 75mph which I thought was good Road Tax is £445...sorry but had to point that out But I was 20 when I got mine with a crash and 9 points...and the MPS was about £900-£1,200 cheaper than a GTi, A3, Civic Type-R, Focus ST etc...and the car was cheaper and was the most powerful and had the most 'kit' so it was a no brainer, and it was rather rare You are right to think the 3 is FWD and the 6 is AWD and it's the same engine so same power Out of everyone on here there ain't many faults, a few turbos, a few VVT issues etc etc but mainly great cars There are different types of the 3 MPS - Aero and non-Aero and a revised one 58/09 I think which has slightly darker wheels and black trim and seats, plenty more info if required! Yep welcome and good advise already posted. One of the best laughs with the car is the shock you can give others as very little know about the performance till its too late.

Haha I've been pretty interested in cars for a while now, well into Forza and can't say I've ever thought twice about a Mazda 3 or 6.. Until I saw something about a 2.3Turbo, suddenly the car started to look a lot better too somehow :P
I've read countless reviews and it all seems pretty darn good. I like that it comes with a lot for the amount you pay too!
I reallllyyy like the look of the newer shape 6, but they never made an MPS version did they? :(

I was the same mate. I've owned an RX8 which was a nice car but never considered a 5 door hatch by Mazda until I started digging. I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and can honestly say it's the best car I've owned and I like it more and more everytime I drive it. It's reasuring to have this forum behind you too as there are a lot of very helpful and knowledgeable guys on here who are always willing to help. You won't regret it and should be able to get a really nice car for that money.

Ahoy there Lozmachine! Strangely enough I went from a P Reg Celica 2.0 GT Liftback in white to the 3MPS MK1. I only had the Celica for 6 or 7 months when I came into some money (legitimate I must add  ) and then sold the Celica via Autotrader...the guy who bought it didn't really know what the silver Japanese family runabout on the drive next to it was...he was a little amazed when I told him it would crack 0-60 in less than 6 seconds on a good day and go onto a limited 155. Must also say that when I turned up at work in the Celica there was lots of praise about the aesthetics...I mean it must be one of the best looking motors ever made IMO and in white I felt like a poor man's crockett out of Miami Vice. I had a double din DVD player on the dash and it was easily the biggest head turner I've driven..however...it was good for around an 8 sec 60 and onto a top speed of 132 mph although it took an age getting there (which I did on a private track naturally). It was the complete opposite to the Mazdy as nobody at work mentioned the looks of the MPS and yet it's much quicker, more practical (legroom, headroom, 5 doors, boot space), less attention seeking and a comfortable place to be. The Celica may have been more 'exciting' to drive from a 'will my car actually hold together around this corner' and lower seating position akin to a Go-Kart but there's smiles of enjoyment to be had by blasting away from other vehicles who don't know what lies beneath the bonnet. I have Versatuned my stock Mazdy so it's even nippier now. The MPS (3 or 6) is a cracking return for your money if you pick up a decent example...had mine coming up for two years now and the novelty hasn't worn off. Good luck with the hunt

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.
Going to look at going for test drives and deepen my search in the coming weeks but I'm just doing the background work at the moment. Mine is the 1.8 litre so it lacks umph, with autotrader saying it has 119 bhp standard. So naturally I expect to have around 100 now it's getting on a bit and has a lot of miles! Had it about 16 months now and I can honestly say it has never failed me, apart from 1 flat tyre caused by stupid pot holes. I'm hoping the Mazda is just as reliable but has a lot more power. Specifically I want to be able to beat my friends Focus ST (tuned to about 275 bhp)
Are there any specific places I can look for Mazda performance parts? Remaps etc?

Streetunit, corksport, cp-e for parts Versatune, bbr, hypertech, xopower, litchfield imports, Clive atthowe, Wallace performance for remaps. Stick an intake on and I'll put money on that you will be faster than your mates st.
