Hi all, Once again I'm on a look out for a new car, previous history is: Golf MK4 GTI, 350z and now a Fabia 1,9 TDI currenlty running 200bhp, cracking little thing but never fallen in love with it. What am I doing here? Well, I've been looking at 3mps for few months but I'm resigned to the idea of owning one a my poor 4K budget wont cut it. I've started looking at 6mps instead as I found a couple of 07 at the very top of my budget with just under 70K but also seen others with over 80K at £6000. So first question would be what price? As soon as I'm back from holiday I'll be looking into more depth for spec performance, tuning upgrades (spoilers and flames don't count!) and all the usual stuff. Currently other contenders are Mondeo ST220 ( I know what Clarkson said) GOlf MK4 V6 4motion and Nissan Stagea. Thanks Alex

Good luck with your car search Alex. Can't help you on price sorry, completely different story over in AUS. Have you even owned an AWD vehilce? Perhaps you should give that a go?
A bit of info on the 6 for you via a short story that happened last weekend...
I was on a car cruise last weekend with a few mates. In front I had a Ferrari F360 Spyder and behind the beast Mercedes C63 AMG (6.2L V8 @336kW) As my sig would suggest I've done a few mods but the reality is I still have the stock turbo and stock cooler. To my amazement, I was able to keep pace with the Ferrari. In a drag race, I have no doubt both Ferrari and AMG would leave me in the dust but at high RPM out of the corners my MPS was explosive. In fact, I actually lost my brakes at one point from over heating behind the Ferrari and I was constantly on them waiting for him to "go" I found if I didn't shift down and was at a lower RPM (about 4-4,500RPM) When I heard that Ferrari open up he was gone and nothing I could do...BUT at high RPM 5,000RPM in 4th gear, when I let it go, I kept pace as I heard the Ferrari's note take off
Pulled up at the assigned destination stop and the AMG driver and passengers get out and ask what turbo and cooler have I modified to as they were surprised behind me. I said "stock" ...."BS" and with that I somehow stole a passanger out of the AMG to come in the MPS for the experience. Apparently the AMG was working hard behind me and I did see him sideways a couple of times. For the most part the AMG was on my tail with out of the corners the MPS exploded away leaving the AMG to play catch-up and by then we were at the next corner, then the next.
Was a ridiculously good day and cruise. My mate was talking to the Ferrari owner at lunch. Apparently he doesn't go full noise when he has passengers. But there was one time on the cruise when I was at low RPM and he opened up....it is quick....but for the cash I spent on the MPS and considering its stock cooler and turbo. I kept the big boy toys guessing! Apparently the AMG had to roll its windows up as all they could smell were my brakes!

Early ones too, if they have had the clutch sorted, hold better value as they are lower tax band.

Hi and All I can offer is that I owned a ST220 and got rid of it for my MPS6. The only advantages the Mondeo had over the MPS is the bigger boot, back seats fold down and the interior was nicer..... that being said, my MPS would scalp the ST220 performance wise and thats what puts the grin on my face!

Hi guys,
Thank you for the welcome. only driven a AWD once but not hard enough to feel the difference and I'll definitely test drive one before purchasing. If all/most boxes are ticked a black 50/70K miles is what I would be after.
DJJUT : Yours and kevstweart cars is what got me considering a 6 look wise !!

Is Rogwicks the one with blacked out rear light? Lovely car but I'll have to see the paint in the flash (Merc white good, Fiat white bad)
I think I found what's "wrong" with the 4K car I've seen.... it's only a 2.0L :(

I reckon if one of you guys either resprayed or imported a white MPS6 you'd turn a fair few heads! I reckon Black looks nice, however I feel it requires more maintenence to keep it looking good compared to the white. Dust and scratches show easier but I can't match the shine a black car offers when polished! Check out Kevstewart's HDR photo set if he's loaded them up on his thread. His thumbnail gives a fair idea, here it is a little larger

Black would be my main choice but as you said is a bit of a pain to keep clean but I find cleaning and waxing the car relaxing...

I have a white car and a black motorcycle. The bike I can see small scratches on the side fairings and I need to wash it weekly (although I don't) to keep it looking clean. The car probably has many scratches (typical for any car as I DO NOT balance keys or items on the paint EVER) but on inspection I doubt you would find any. You just can't see them on the white paint which is nice. Another point is I think Black cars are generally hotter in the sun. Not a big deal for you fellas but we have 40+ degree C days here. The last thing I would want is to hop in a black oven to drive home.
Black looks hawt!! I'd wanna tap that, but (for me) wouldn't want to live with it White is the one I chose to live with, it looks nice (not as shiney) but it's easily maintained. I have stone chips but no visible scratches unless you really look under certain light and angles but even then, you'd be hard pressed to find them
