Old days - immobiliser switch concealed somewhere. Problem, easy to find because it was usually near ignition wiring and therefore near dash.

Today - no need for immobiliser switch because we have coded keys. Problem, got your keys, got your car.

Future - Both immobilisers with the switch concealed just anywhere in the car using wifi.

I will hopefully be getting a proximity sensor for mine, so it goes off before anyone can even do any damage!

Downside with these is the little shites that keep going near it just to set it off in the night, or as happened to a mate, they did it when he was out, next time he tried to start it guess what.......flat battery!!

still wowed by my new toy, good motorway tool too. only saw one car I couldn't beat ......ford GT40.

Anyway a question for the techno weenies out there, why didn't Mazda put this engine in the RX8 ? it more powerful, reliable and better on fuel. I looked at the RX but too many horror stories of major spends.

glad you are enjoying it

The RX8 is a very finely balance car for handling etc. and a heavier engine (although possibly would make it faster in a straight line) would ruin what Mazda were trying to achieve with it. It always comes out very high up in any best handling car lists and is great fun to drive (apart from in the snow).

Reliability wise it has always had bad press, and the rx7 gave it a bad name before the 8 was even launched. The Rx8 forum has loads of horror stories as people tend to post when something goes wrong. That said, it does have more bad posts than most for issues around flooding and oil use. ("use" is the keyword here, it uses it but if you keep it topped up you are good to go  )

flooding - the spark plugs are near the bottom (great idea  ) so if you start it and turn it off straight away lots of fuel sits on the plugs and you go nowhere.

To be fair to Mazda they do provide guidance with the car - but do people read there Owners Manuals? ( i will let james answer that!!)

Its unique and needs to treated differently to a "normal" car, you get 18MPG  but can rev to 9k :D it has no torque  but sounds superb :D

would I buy one again? Only if I had it from new (like the last one) or the previous owner could demonstrate that it had been looked after properly.

And one last thing where else can you type Wankel (engine) in a sentance and get away with it?

Very well put mate  I fancied getting one a while back but as you said it means finding one that has been looked after properly

A friend had an RX7 cabrio about 10 yrs ago and was great fun, fast quiet good handling but at 70k the damn thing needed bump starting regularly and my 300z was the only thing that could tow it (common prob he was told).
Think I will stick with the MPS for now and maybe next year grab a new shape.

Just heard from the Plod that my car has been recovered, It has been used in some "crimes" in the Birmingham area. I`m assuming it was the getaway car.
