Hi All, I sold my Boxster couple of weeks ago - yeah I know 'Hairdressers car' etc but as I am running around in a Vectra diesel estate I am bored already. Son no. 2 has just bought a Mazda6 2.3 Sport 06 and the mrs loves driving it so I thought ideal time to persuade her we need a 6 mps. So I am looking at one at the weekend 06 decent mileage good price but it has had an engine change about a year ago by a Mazda garage and the guy who owns it bought it direct from the garage. I phoned the garage and everything the seller told me was confirmed by the garage that another engine with 53k was fitted just before it was sold. It has now done 62k so would need a service anyway but I am still concerned with the VVT issue on these. I have listened to every vid on youtube concerning the noise and some are obvious but as I am not an expert I wondered if the mps are much noisier on startup than my sons 2.3 sport ? I am aware of letting the car idle for a while for turbo seals etc but not sure of what else. Any help or views much appreciated. Mark

I've no idea whether the sport is quieter or not I'm afraid. But if in doubt knock the price of a service off the asking price Or just find another one

Thanks, trouble is the guy is keen to sell so the price is good, really good just concerned about the VVT. I take it there is no way to 'cure' the problem before it happens ? And how often does this happen on the mps ?
cheers mark

You had a hair dressers car? You'll get on well with Soren, he's just bought a Crossfire haha
Best advice I can give is destroy all forms of online payment, delete your profile and never come back. At least don't talk to Spamface or you will have a forged engine, big turbo, methanol injection, coil overs and racing wheels. He's good at spending money!!
Seriously, just ask the dealer whether the uprated VVT has been fitted. The kit is about £300 from America, and about £200 to fit. If it's already at a good price, it might be worth having someone check over the VVT with you.
Where are you? Probably a member that will go to look at the car with you.

Funnily enough my son just sold a Crossfire to buy the 6 Sport cause he couldn't get his carp gear in the Crossfire. I have to admit I liked it - nearly as fast as my Boxster and only cost 3200 with full history and 48k. i am in Cambs but the car is somewhere in Leicestershire. I though the VVT was a lot more to sort - around 700 to 800 quid ? Anything else apart from idle smoke ( Aware of that as missus has a Figaro that does it ).

Someone called out my name If it's cheap as you make out, buy it, do the VVT. Tadaa I'd do the VVT on any MPS I bought anyhow. As mentioned, VVT kit is £300 to your door and around £200 labour from a side at mechanic. Or go Mazda and they'll do it fr £1200 While your having the VVT done, may as well forge it

But you'd spend a fortune on hair products.... There are actually three members who haven't yet modified their cars, so there is hope!!

Seller reckons the revs are up a bit on start up which I assume is auto choke then quiet as a mouse, so if this is the case would you bother with the VVT or wait till it gets noisy ? Also smoke on idle is normally turbo or pcv ? Lots of questions but a cheap lemon is still a lemon ! My Boxster was Yellow so I spose I could spray it Yellow !

The engine does rev to 20th ram on start up. VVT is a rattle coming from near the oil filler cap.
Smoke is possibly caused by the PCV, but from the turbo seal failure.

^^^ typo Central He means 2000 rpm upon first start up, it's to warm the catalytic converters up. Smoke on idle can be the turbo yeah, normally a tint of blue and stinks. If white smoke, that's condensation.
