yes mate the car was standard unmodified.

was there any ticking on start up for a couple of seconds, any vibrations in the clutch peddle when pressing it down did you notice?

Exactly how long ago did you buy the car and did you buy it privately or from a dealer/trader? If the engine blew within 3 months of purchasing from a dealer/trader then you have a good case to get them to cover most or all of the cost.
