Hi all

Iv currently got a evo 8 running around 360-370bhp but I'm after a change and I'm looking at the mk2 3mps. I'm a big big fan of hot hatches I had a civic type r before the evo which was quite highly strung and loved it.

Is there a buyers guide for the mk2? If not any advice when looking at one any common faults or anything

I'll be looking to mod it to around 300-350bhp what mods will be needed and will it be reliable?

Any help would be great

Cheers

Lib

welcome to the forum. the mk2's are pretty sound, they have the updated VVT and crankcase i believe.

300bhp will be easily achieved with SRI/TIP, hpfp internals and a map. for more then your looking at a second decat, uprated tmic, this would probably see 320ish maybe 330, for 350 then you will probably need a 3" catless dp or sports cat but that will be pushing the standard k04 so expect to need an new tubby afterwards but not immediately.

How does the diff cope when upgrading the power?

How does the car cope on trackdays?

One thing Iv noticed in the mps world a lot of abbreviations that I don't understand haha

Welcome.

there are now a good few tuning options so you have some reading, to point you in the right direction, if you want a custom tune got to Total MPS or BBR, talk to them and they'll sort you out. TMPS if you live int he north, BBR if you're south.

If you're familiar with self tuning, get a Cobb AP or Versatuner, plenty on the forum about both so have a quick search but also ask if you can't find anything. We also have a couple of resident versatuner tuners (if that makes sense) that may help you out, though i'm led to believe the help may require a reach around?

As for reliability, i had mine dyno'd at 348.8bhp & 390lb/ft and i'm just about to go for my 72k service. I have a knackered shock absorber, but other than that, only the odd minor niggle so can't complain about reliability.

One thing to look for that often gets missed is the 3k oil change, so check the service record. A smokey turbo can be a problem, not so much on post 2010 cars but it still happens, so leave the car idling for 5 minutes and look for white smoke. Can't think of anything else other than what you'd check on any car?

:welcome: to the forum, I shall try my best to decode the abbreviation ;) VVT - variable valve timing, SRI - short ram intake, TIP - turbo inlet pipe, TMIC - top mounted intercooler, DP - down-pipe, and HPFP - high pressure fuel pump. I hope I covered them all :D

Welcome to the site. Pics required of your evo. You changing just cause you want something different or are you reducing costs, etc?
