Get a pre-march 2006 and tax is halved. £260 per year.
Insurance is anywhere between £500-£1000 depending on age points claims.
Mpg realistically is 20-25 but on a run you can easily average 30-40mpg.
Mods as with any turbo car include Air Intake upgrades and exhaust. More efficient intercoolers.
A few handling mods too such as engine mounts, anti roll bars and short shift kits.
A few mapping options. Couple of off the shelf tunes in Hypertech and VersaTune. Versatune allows custom maps DIY style or pay for services from a tuner. XO/Total MPS in north east, HQ in Scotland or BBR in the South for maps from reputable garages.
Common problems mainly the smoking turbo (search forum) and VVT.

cheers fella much appreciated.
anyone got any big power out of the 6mps i will be looking to mod it quite substantially as with my previous cars if finances allow?
i thought id opt for sticking with 4wd as thats all i know in terms of driving performance cars.
how does the 3mps compare?

There are a couple of fellas working on big power. DJJUT is currently sitting 350ish but has just installed a bigger turbo and FMIC with RamAir and I am not sure if he has dyno'd after adjusting his map.
MPS6Dave is also coming along nicely. Just fitted a 3" downpipe and adjusted map. Probably around 350Bhp too. I think DJJUT will be 400+ by the time he is finished. Need forged internals for that though.
3MPS are lighter but minus 4wd. Personal preference I guess. Performance is on a par all 3 models (3Mki, 3Mkii and 6) use the same engine and some parts are interchangable between them.

im working on about 350/60 now aswell. if you get it forge internals you can have big power. im just short of a bigger turbo and down pipe and i should be well over 400bhp, but like above djjut's is a monster and so is mps6daves

With all my mods I'd estimate about 300bhp with a safe tune - max boost 18psi tapering down to 15/16 psi towards redline. I require a catted downpipe and power should increase at least 10% Downpipe is the key part to get over 300bhp (I'm currently trying to find a suitable one)

Is Northumberland too far to travel?
Be about £250 fitted at my local place if he quoted £600 for a full system?
