My 6 MPS is stock, what have people found to be the best "launch"? Just curious.

For some reason if I try it at around the 4000rpm mark then the clutch "sticks" then the revs shoot to a frightening 7000rpm and I have to put the clutch right back down again for it to come back and then 30 seconds later it stinks to high heaven.

Could this be air in the lines causing it not to come back?

Also, what's people found to be the best place to buy new warranties as I've only had this 6 days and it only comes with 3month but that's only on the engine.

Sounds like you're just banging too much torque through the clutch and it's slipping. The 6 isn't really a launch car - it supposedly has reletively week rear diff mounts and you can do them damage. And besides, 4WD cars are notoriously difficult to launch anyway, especially blown ones.

If you're into sprinting then get your mounts upgraded and get an uprated clutch

It's probably not helping that I've gone from a fwd 140bhp Insignia to such a beast and the fact I've had it less than a week and I'm still stalling on occasions as I'm not used to the clutch yet. It just worried me a little that's all.

I had the same experience. I just don't ever "launch" the car any more. If I want a quick getaway I do it from about 3000rpm and engage the clutch over the space of about a second. The trick is to slip the clutch as little as possible but just enough to get the wheel speed up to the equivalent engine speed of about 3000rpm. That way you get the clutch fully engaged as quick as possible without completely bogging down :) The most important thing being to engage the clutch since so much torque will make a mess of your clutch really quickly if you're slipping :smash:

5,000RPM full launch dumping the clutch resulted in 4.82 seconds to 100kmph from a mate in his MPS6. Upgraded the turbo and funny enough was a second slower due to wheel spin, haven't heard if he's tried it again with his new fatter tyres. I've done a few good launches and a lot of bad ones myself.

I just need to get to know the car more I think. Time will tell.

Make sure you turn off DSC every time you launch

Whaaaaaat?! The 6 is one of the best launch cars out there! Granted if your on the strip, you'd need better diff brace etc, but they rocket from a standstill! M5 vs mps 6 into YouTube and you'll see one of the best launches ever! Destroys the m5 off the line!

Yeah, the trick is to get that clutch up before the wellington hits the floor.

The only way to get an effective launch is to disengage the DSC - otherwise the car will not let the power go to the wheels - in my experience.

I did a good one a month or two back - as quick as anything I can recall - I wished I'd been able to maintain it for a quarter mile it could have been a good time!

You'll start running up big bills if you do too many though - I used to have an Evo 8 and I knackered the clutch with about half a dozen good launches in that - nearly £300 a piece that made them :-)

6 decent launches and the clutch was gone?

How much is a mps 6 clutch before labour & after labour time?

Anyhow, can't smell that awful burning smell inside the car that I got from that failed, boy did it stink, clutch doesn't stick anymore, must have been a one off. But (this is gonna sound really retarded as I know sod all about the goings on of an engine) when I had that failed launch (see page one of this topic) and it smelled of burning the 1st thing I did was look around the engine for anything obvious, and as it smelled at the time, I'm pessimistic and now every time I get out the car I have a quick look under the bonnet/hood to have a nosy, but there is still a whiff, but not once the engine has cooled and been off. Is it normal for it to smell of a little burning? I assume so as after all it is combusting all the time. Did this make sense? Probably gonna get a mechanic to have a quick once over I think, just for peace of mind.

is that from releasing the clutch to quick or reving the car too much preparing for gear change? Damn I sound so thick  , forgive me, I'm learning.

Ahhh, just read up on clutches and the life span......

"Basically, the less work you require your clutch to do, the longer it's likely to survive. Assuming you aren't a race car driver who has to make a lot of fancy gear changes in a hurry, or a truck driver hauling heavy rigs over mountain ranges where gravity is going to put a lot of pressure on your transmission, there are a few dos and don'ts that will help your clutch survive.

Don't use the clutch when you don't need to. When you pull up to a traffic light and expect to sit for more than 10 seconds, don't use the clutch as a way of making the car stand still. Instead, take your car out of gear, put your foot on the brake and let your transmission rest in neutral until the light is ready to change. That'll give your clutch a well-needed break instead of keeping constant pressure on it.

Even more importantly, don't ride the clutch pedal as a way of controlling the speed of your car. That's what the accelerator and brakes are for. Yes, you can cause your clutch to slow down and speed up by modulating the pedal between the fully depressed and fully released positions, but this can take years off your clutch's lifetime. In general, you want your clutch pedal either all the way up or all the way down. Don't keep it in the in-between position any longer than you have to."
