Hi guys,

Just started browsing the forum as i am interested in a mazda 6 mps. I currently own a focus ST3 but require 4 doors now so the mps is the favourite. The list of cars im looking at are;

Skoda octavia VRS
BMW 330i
Mazda MPS

now for obvious reasons the MPS is winning at the moment (better equiped and faster etc etc) but the one thing really putting me of is the price of tax, its almost double the price of the focus.

Anyway enough rambling from me and hello to you all.

cheers
Ant

Hello & :welcome:

Yup the tax is quite annoying, depending on what age your after if you got an early 06 model it's nearly half...but then my thought was it's about £200 per year more than other cars I looked at and I will keep it for 2-3 years, that's only £600 max which I would have spent about £3k more on something similar which would be slower and common!

Edit: If you went for the 3 MPS mk2 then it's the lower tax band unless it's a saloon your after?

Hello and welcome.

I dont get the problem with paying higher tax - what does it work out at £10 - £15 pm more ????

Dont get me wrong would be lovely if it were cheaper and the whole process of working it out seems a bit of a farce but it really shouldnt break the deal IMO

Couldnt agree anymore with you Mike, Yes the tax is more but my insurance was alot cheaper for me which made the difference. Plus like mike said its only £15pm more which isnt noticable really.

I would much rather have the rarer car and cheaper insurance.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I'm more after the 4wd aswell as the salloon, otherwise i would buy the ST in 5 doors but i'm getting older now and growing out of the hot hatch cars.

It isnt the deal breaker so to speak, but as i only do 6k a year i'm sorry but £445 a year is a p*ss take. Thanks for the advice i'll look for the pre march 06 model.

One other thing guys i've looked through the common faults etc, which is really good as there arent many, but there are no solutions for the following;

snatchy clutch
corroded alloys
creaking windows.

I know there not much but could someone point me in the direction to fix these. Also if anyone is planning on selling a 6 mps in next 6 months let me know.

I'm located in the northwest england (wigan) and i dont mean to be cheeky but if anyones about and wants to show there 6 off to me send me a pm as i have yet to see a 6 in the flesh.

Thanks again
Ant

Not sure about the others but corroded alloys...the only way you can fix this would be to live with it, or have them refurbished...or replace with other wheels if you wish?

Welcome to the forum !

All good cars, I've driven all three and personally liked both the 330 and the MPS but was dissapointed with the general drive / feel of the VRS.

Very much a personal preference though I guess.

Hi there mate and :welcome: .

I have a 2005 registered MPS and it has never suffered from creaking windows. It did have a very snatchy clutch but you can adjust it to make it a lot better. Hope you find a good'un

Your alloys will be corroded, that's for sure. Mazda just can't make'em properly  Fab car though but the boot's not as big as the Focus, or as accessible. I went from an ST to an MPS ... twice as it happens and whilst I really, really bonded with the ST's character, the MPS is just an all-round better car in every way. :wings:

Bugger i never knew that either! i thought the 6 was a hatch!? well you learn something new everyday! I have got my first insurance quote and its same price as i pay on focus (£850) so i'm sure i can get that alot cheaper. Been looking around and can only see 1 for sale thats pre march 2006 so i'm glad ive started looking early as this may be a long search and i need to sell my car.

cheers
Ant

the 3 is a hatch the 6 a saloon as you mentioned in previous post.

Not sure if you know but only the 6 comes with AWD not the 3.

Id still consider post 2006 as you say there are not many pre 2006 about now and if not looked after you will be spending more on repairs than you will save on tax.

Good luck with the hunt
