I'm Gary, live near Bristol and currently drive a 7 years old Impreza WRX which I have had from new and put 130K miles on. I love it to bits but now want something with fewer miles and the Mazda 6 MPS seems to be a logical step up.

Since my scooby is tuned and remapped to 265bhp on an ecutek map I was wondering what similar upgrades can be done to a 6 to get up to the 300bhp ish mark.

Also what is the Bose stereo like? My car has a 5.1 surround JVC DVD system so I'd like a decent system, perhaps add an under-seat woofer, DAB, iPod link?

Last question... what kind of MPG can I expect at ~80mph? I do a lot of motorway journeys so would like to see something around 30mpg... is that possible.

Cheers :)

An induction kit, decat plus exhaust system and remap should see you around the 300bhp mark.

Cruising at 80mph on the motorway should see you somewhere around the 35mpg mark.

The BOSE is ok for an OE system and has an 8" sub in the rear shelf. There's a thread i wrote on the forum for constructing a mini pre-amp so you can manually adjust the sub level. The front tweeters are fairly naff so you can either replace just the tweeters or fit new components. The amp chucks out enough volume for normal listening.

Might be worth checking out a Spec B, if you can find one, but I expect that they are as rare as a 6MPS.

No not yet, but I've seen some for sale in Bristol & Bath so I might go and see them.

There seems to be a big discrepancy in prices e.g. on Pistonheads, there's two similar cars, one is £9K and the other £7K

One more question... do they have a folding rear seat or a ski-chute hole thing? I find this really handy for my regular trips to B&Q etc.

The back seats do not fold down although there is a video on here somewhere that shows you how to do it but it's not just a case of pressing a couple of buttons  but it can be done all the same
