I'm gonna guess that cause it's a '59 plate it's the mk2.
'09 was mk1 then the change to mk2 came at '59 plates..

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's how they worked.

I believe that's correct, my gen 1 is a 09 and one of the last I think as it was registered in may 2009.
I know that car manufacturers sometimes have excess stock of old models so they get registered in sept with the new registration, not sure if that happened to any mazda mps cars. :icon_question:
