Hey everyone,

I recently bought a 2007 Mazda 6 MPS in Mica Black with 122k km on the clock which is totally standard and VVT timing kit done. I got out of the performance car game a couple of years ago after owning several Subaru Impreza WRX's, Seat Leon FR and a Porsche 944 (still in the garage but off the road) because of wife/kids :) However 2 years of owning a Nissan Almera 1.5 "Sport" have taken there toll and with the arrival of a second child, I told her I needed a bigger car. With the green light given and with the only restriction being "no boy racer cars allowed", I arrived home with a 260 bhp, 4WD, 4 door family saloon  The only sting in the tail is the Irish road tax system which charges annual road tax of 994 euro for the privilege of ownership

Anyways, I love the sleeper looks of the car and also driving it is so much nicer than a WRX/STi which suffer from terrible turbo lag which means you need to keep the revs up in order to make serious progress. I am very impressed with this car apart from my only niggle being a very slight hesitation at 2300-2500rpm under half load throttle when cold (replaced battery, cleaned MAF and replaced plugs with NGK ILTR6A 8G but no difference).

Hello mate I currently have a 57 reg 6 with 85k on and it does exactly the same I can avoid it by not feathering the throttle but when the cars cold I only feather the throttle for at least 10 mins and that's letting the car run for 2-3 mins before I even set off. Let me know if you find the cure

Hey Locky323,

I think my hesitation is almost gone through a combination of using good quality petrol and a new Mann air filter. When I went to inspect the air filter I actually found that it was missing! The previous owner probably had an induction kit installed and when selling the car put back in the original airbox but didn't bother to put in an air filter. Assuming that your air filter is present and in good condition then a possible source of your hesitation could be the MAF sensor (which you can clean with some electrical cleaner from Halfords) or a vacuum leak from one of the hoses connected to the IC or turbo (make sure all the clamps are tight and there are no hairline cracks which could be sealing themselves once the engine gets hot).

Hope this is of some help,
Mark

May be worthwhile rebooting the ecu. Disconnect the battery and press the football for a few seconds. Then reconnect the battery and drive carefully for 30 to 40 miles to let the ecu set the fuel trims.
