Hello everyone, laid down my deposit for my 06 reg 6MPS and hopefully picking it up this weekend coming!

This forum has been so so helpful in terms of buying, what to look out for and what to avoid so I appreciate the free help!

Couple of questions (typical newbie)??

--- Insurance: I have been quoted around £136 a month which for my circumstances is not too bad at all (I am 19 yrs old and barely have a years NCB). Will I be able to get cheaper through Chris Knott do you reckon?

--- The VVT Chain: On the one I will be the proud owner of, the VVT chain has NOT been replaced, it was registered in April 06 (currently at 80k miles) which is before the date on the Bulletin released by Mazda. I was cautious but I could not hear any 'chain slapping'. Is it something I may need to replace later? (The car was warm when he started it, shall I get him to start it cold when I pick it up just to make sure?)

--- The turbo: Again is this something I will need to replace in time? No signs of smokey turbo etc. pulls away nicely on test drive.

I plan to look after the car immaculately so any tips? I will be using V-Power fuel (or any over 97ron) etc.

Any oil products or suggestions?

Thanks guys

Oh and the name is Greg

Insurance- worth a quote

Vvt- should be done at this mileage, even if you can't hear it, not worth the risk IMHO

Fuel- pick one, stick to it, personally it should be vpower or tesco momentum

welcome to the forum mate :)Insurance seems all over the place tbh spammy is paying retardo money becasue of his postcode.
CAn you wait until you have 1years ncb before insuring?

If not I'd go via confused.com and then maybe give greenlight a call.

VVT would be best to have it done as a precautionary measure tbh

oil, Shell helix Ultra 5/40 is the way to go 19.99 for 5L atm on ECP

Cheers for the replies.

It has full Mazda Service History and he had the same worry with the chain when he bought it about 6 months ago. He is getting rid of it because he is covering more miles therefore needing a diesel.

Are there any owners on here that have never had it replaced?

Thanks again guys!

Before you shell out for a replacement vvt and timing chain, I would get a garage to check the alignment of the vvt pin and whether there are chain slap marks on the inside of the rocker cover. Any problems then definitely. If they find that the chain is running out of adjustment then I would also get it done. With over 80k miles on the original chain then that is likely.
If everything is OK, I would still budget for the job in the future and get the full kit from the US and save yourself a shed load of money.

I've had 3 6mps now all 3 of them have had the BBT/Chain done either by myself or previous owners.

Kit from the states is way cheaper than from MAzda uk :)

I can't help thinking that if it's full Mazda s/h then if it needed a change it would have been done? Might get the owner to see if it has been done, maybe by a previous owner.

I know it will need one eventually, just pray it won't be soon.

Thanks for all the advice guys, can't wait to pick her up!

It's not part of a service, just a weak part that should be changed every 50k or so ideally.

Aye the common view is it's a chain so not counted as service "worty" like belts haha
If it's got full service history give any Mazda dealer a call with the reg and they'll let you know whats been done.

I`m not sure if repair work is recorded on the digital service history.

I rang my local Mazda dealer today and they confirmed the Mazda Service history but they couldn't see anything to do with VVT chain as that kind of work isn't usually recorded unless Mazda pay for it (under warranty).

Cheers for all your help though guys, appreciate all your suggestions with oil, fuel and the chain etc.

Still cannot wait to pick it up. :D

Hi and welcome,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.

Only work done under warranty i believe. Mine shows transfer box having been replaced at 27000 service and stereo at some other point.
